I agree..as a destination for Davis, there's nothing appealing about the Lakers on paper(declining LeBron, no other players, etc)..for the Pelicans, there's nothing appealing to acquire from the Lakers(no star potential players, draft picks won't be high enough)

However, I find it hard to believe that this isn't all planned by LeBron and from what we know about him, there's always serious depth in his plans..

Could just be he wants a realistic scapegoat when the Lakers inevitably fail to contend. He knows his basketball prime is behind him and there's still no realistic way for him to beat the Dubs outside them breaking up, so as long as it appears he's helping do everything possible to try and win his people can spin the blame on AD (widely considered to be the best big in the league) ala Bosh/Love.

The media talk about this matter is all about how the Spurs pulled a rabbit out of a hat and still managed to get an all-NBA guy and how the trade worked for both sides and like that. Pels will probably pay a lot of attention to what Pop has to say.

The "worst" star haul Magic and Pelinka can realistically get is Booker and Davis. Should that happen, say goodbye to Lonzo and McGee, maybe even Kuzma. Easy, no-brainer choices, right? Pelicans' gm Dell Demps might just be dumb enough and its widow owner vulnerable enough to League leverage to send their franchise player to a western compe or and the league darling. But expect heavy resistance from Gentry, another student of Pop's military philosophy of never strengthening the enemy. Gentry might need firing before an AD move can happen.

November post. If Davis is traded before deadline, he goes east. If Davis plays out the rest of the season for Gentry's sake as Gentry's price to speak to ownership in favor of the trade that Carter wants come the offseason, he will be a Laker in 2019-2020.
