Gronk has to be #1, and what the kind of historian leaves Dwight Clark off his top 10?

no respect for the history of the game. The Catch, the superbowls~~~~~~~ wow

    Tony Gonzalez

    111 TD's
    15127 yards
    1325 catchs

    GRONK

    79
    7861
    521

Not even close. it's all Gonzalez.

Only those who know nothing about football have Clark as a TE. Not one Niner fan has him at TE.

i have this idiot on ignore, so i'm not reading his post. i'm assuming that whatever he said, he disrespected joe montana's opinion that clark played some tight end

Never been about did Clark play some TE, I talked about that long ago, it's about did Clark ever play the TE position and he didn't. There was no game where the roster read....Dwight Clark TE.

Just saw a replay of a Chiefs vs Pats game, there is Tyreek Hill at RB, is he now a RB, of course not, he is just at that position.

That says it all right there.

What criteria are you using to put GRONK above those who did far more?

Rob vs Tony is the only debate I see

Hindsight would put Sharpe above Gates

If we’re arguing continuity / overall achievements, I’ll take Gonzalez and Gates over Gronk.

If we’re arguing who was most dominant in his prime, Gronk is on his own level, his prime just didn’t last. The non stop partying and binge drinking definitely shortened his career.

    Gonzalez
    Gates
    Gronk
    Witten
    Sharpe

TE is a pleb position after these 5 dudes. Clark would be #6 I suppose.

yeah i guess. but thats kinda just stat tallying. its not that gronk's "prime" was just the best. his entire career minus his first and last season was the best TE anybody had every played tbh. its not like he just had a stellar 2 year peak with the rest being lesser. he was dominant throughout.

gates was never much of a factor blocking, and gonzalez started off poorly and ended up being a solid blocker down the line. gronk was always a monster on that front, and its a huge part of being a TE. otherwise you're just a large slot receiver.

Yeah that’s a valid argument with Gates (it’s why I never put Jimmy Graham on the top TE list, he’s more or less just a large wide receiver).

Gronk’s issue is that he only had 4 complete seasons where he played at an elite level (but as you said those 4 seasons were GOAT level tight end play). 2012, 2013 and 2016 were all cut short.

He was still really good but wasn’t ever the same after the series of forearm/back/ACL injuries in 2012 and 2013.

You guys overeating Gates. Most of his catches are a 10 yard hitch route.
