tbh I don't know why this is a big deal. When Penaldo subbed himself in the Euro finals so Portugal could win he was also a first-team player fwiw.

Oh he's a phenomenal CL player, but in terms of overall Messi is comfortably the better player than Ronaldo. He's the best scorer and playmaker, and Messi is only 16 goals behind Ronaldo in CL total goals, although Ronaldo obviously has the edge in knockout goals.

But anyone with a pair of eyes can see that Messi is the better player, you never say Ronaldo was amazing unless he scores or assists, whereas Messi still puts in world class performances (like that legnedary performance against city in 2015) where he doesn't have to assist or score and still have a massive impact on the game.

They're obviously different players and no can deny Ronaldo's resume, but in terms of skillset it's always been Messi.

Both statements are exaggerated. Barça wouldn't dominate as much in La Liga or win so many clásicos. And Messi would find some success in any team.

I mean, instead of Barça winning 3:0, they would win games 2:1 or something like that, which would lead to much more surprises, Madrid and Atlético would have caught them from time to time and they wouldn't repeat at la liga, or the copa, season after season.

He's lacking in international trophies, but well it's not easy to reach finals of Copa América or finals of a mundial. Not even classification for the mundial is a given from the CONMEBOL. Argentina simply became highly disorganized in his period with the team. It's not his fault, or of Higuain, Agüero, Dybala, Di María. They are obviously all top. You are not going to forget how to play from one moment to another, then remember again.
