Matthew Boling just ran a 44.7 4x4 leg at the Texas State Champs. There will be Olympians not run that in 2020. An amazing time for a HS kid.

I've seen him talked about on a couple sports talks shows which is never done over HS track. And they play no games, they admit being white and fast is the reason the kid is news,

BUT.........this isn't a first.

Back in 1920 at those Olympics the USA brought white HS kid Francis Hussey to run the leadoff leg on the 4x1 relay. Yep, a HS kid leading off. GB had the Olympic 100m champion Harold Abrahams (Chariots of Fire) on leadoff. A HS kid vs the Worlds Fastest Human. Hussey blew Abrahams away giving the USA a three meter advantage, which is what we won by.

Cali white HS sprinter Frank Lombardi won the state 100 yards in a World Record 96 in the 20's. A white HS kid tying the World Record. Something strange happened in this race. Lombardi false started, so he was penalized a yard, yep, started a yard back of everyone else (Frank Wykoff in the race, he would make three Olympic teams) and still won in WR time. Lombardi did nothing in the sport later on.....????

Then there was Forest Beatty another white Cali HS sprinter.



Forrest O. Beaty is a retired American track and field athlete memorable for setting the National High School record in the straight 220 yard dash, a race slightly longer than the 200 metres straight. It is the longest standing record on the books, although mostly because that distance is not ran anymore. His record time, set on a cinder track^[1] in 1961 as a high school junior at Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale, California was hand timed at 20.2 and equaled the world record for the imperially measured distance.^[2][3] Later in his high school career, he also set the record for the 100-yard dash at 9.4, just .2 off the world record in that event. He was also spectacular on the football field for the school.^[4] He won both races at the CIF California State Meet (coming out of the tunnel at East Los Angeles College) in 1961,^[5] repeating in the 100y in 1962.^[6] He was named the CIF Southern Section Athlete of the Year in 1962,^[7] the same award he shared with future Olympic Champion Ulis Williams in 1961.^[8] He was also Track and Field News High School Athlete of the year in 1962.^[9]

The first female to win the Olympic 100m gold was the white 16 year old Betty Robinson.

And the last white sprinter to run on a USA Olympic 4x1 team was in 1964, this was Dartmouths Gerry Ashworth.

Up until the emergence of Bullet Bob Hayes/Tommie Smith/Jimmy Hines/Charlie Greene/John Carlos in the 60's for every Jesse Owens we had a white Bobby Morrow. White sprinters won the 52/56/60 0lympic 100m.

There has never been a fast white sprinter in the SEC since they started allowing black athletes to compete. The last speedy white sprinter at an SEC school was Richmond Flowers at Tennesee, yep, a movie was made about his life. He was a great hurdler and did play in the NFL.

Right now Boling would be the third fastest sprinter ever at Georgia with his 10.13. But, it will take more than that to hang in that conference which will come with age.

Cy Leland ('30): One of the fastest men in the world – he tied the WORLD RECORD in the 100-yard dash with a time of 9.4 seconds in 1930 – he turned all that speed loose on the football field to become the first great halfback in TCU history. In 1929, he was All-SWC and led the Frogs to an undefeated season and their first-ever SWC le, rushing for 680 yards and scoring 13 touchdowns (11 rushing) – a record that would stand for 26 years. The Lubbock native averaged 7.2 yards every time he carried the ball – best in the nation. He also returned a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns – both over 90 yards. He was an unmatched breakaway runner in the days of "four yards and a cloud of dust." He was All-SWC again in 1930, as well as an All-American, when he rushed for 583 yards and nine more TDs.

Houston McTear might be the "naturally" fastest human ever. As just a junior at Baker HS in Florida he tied the 100 yard WR at 9.0. Think about that, a HS kid running a ...WORLD RECORD....100 yards. He erased legends like Bob Hayes, Harry Jerome, John Carlos, Jim Hines, Charles Greene and their 9.1. NFLer to be Willie McGee also at 9.1.

McTear was a slow witted, slow talking, slow moving black kid who came off awkward. He couldn't make the grades at any school, and he did average 13 yards a carry as a RB. U of Florida wanted him but....too dumb. So he ended out here in Cali at Cerritos JC, also went to Santa Monica. Yep, Cali State JC 100M Champ easily.

He made the Olympic team but injuries and a boycott ed that up. As an indoor sprinter he broke or tied seven WR;'s in seven meets. He was absolutely amazing.

Here is what will happen to Matt Boling once he starts competing for Georgia next season,

The boy will become a 200m sprinter, he has that 100m speed and that 400m endurance, that is a 200m man. And, white sprinters have always been far better in the 200m than the 100m.

Here is a great example.






He started out as a 400m man, with 10.18 100m ability, he had what Boling has. His speed/endurance combo won that.
