The Lyles of two years ago put up the same per-possessions stats as Morris did last season.
Lyles couldn't hit a shot last year but the potential is there for him to eventually be better than Morris. Though, obviously, the 2019-20 Spurs take a hit with this news.
Looked like he was most likely going to end up in NY anyways. I like this move as the longer the Spurs waited the less options they would have, so I assume they had Trey as next best option and wanted to sign him while he was still available. I assume he also was had for less $, but have to wait for the details.
Unless he makes huge strides it doesn't make us much better for next year BUT IF the Spurs can get him playing up to his potential he is young enough to fit in long term plans with our young guys.
It's looking pretty weak from where I'm sitting. That extra year to Carroll is really ugly now.

I don’t mind it. Trey is younger and has a higher ceiling. It’s actually possible that his timeline is inline with Murray’s, Lonnie’s, and D-White’s. The fact that Morris even considered pulling out would have made the relationship with Morris weak at best, if not positively unworkable.
