Not in love with Lyles though. I hope he turns out well, but I'd much rather have him on a pure one-year deal rather than paying to release him. I'm getting really sick of dead money on the cap, and they already did that with Carroll's contract. They should have brought in guys to compete for the backup PF job with Samanic and Metu, and with the wider 9th- and 10th-man battles with those two, Beli, Walker and Johnson. Make up for a lack of quality with quan y.
Ultimately, they traded Bertans for Carroll. That's still a good deal, even if the Morris part fell through. Davis was going to have to fight to earn minutes next year with Walker emerging and guys like Beli and Mills still on the team. Instead, they got a solid starter at the four and can play any number of bench combos with Gay, Poeltl and their guard depth. Yes, with Morris it would have been stronger, but they just have to deal now. The depth chart is going to shift a lot anyway, and there's enough raw talent on the bench to hope the second unit will end up young, hungry and capable.
Not only that but with all that depth at both forward positions i just dont see how he gets that big payday he is aeeking. He was a guranteed starter or having starters minutes here at the least.

I would argue that it is Carroll and Lyle for Bertans and Cunningham.
Lyles is basically a league min. salary type player. There's no reason to use the MLE on this guy.

Lyles was on his way out of the league. He's a bad guy and a locker room cancer and selfish player just like Morris, but Morris could actually play.

I don't know what number he's getting but I do think they'd be better off with just signing a summer league guy or holding out for a buying guy or getting someone from Europe. , they could have signed Milutinov, dumped eubanks and kept Moore instead
