Great opportunity for D-White here with so many guys dropping out tbh. Just stay healthy please.
CIA Pop getting White some extra reps
Perfect setup for the kid. More experience, play with/against better players than the Spurs bench, maybe learn a couple things from some crafty dudes there.
I like it
great move. just don't get injured.
yeah. So happy for my boy.
Have Kemba and Lillard dropped out? If not he might be playing two guard, tbh.
Showcasing him to be a small piece of a blockbuster in-season trade.
Book it.
Thats really great!
This has to do wonders for his confidence!
After reading the article, I think most ST fans are thinking he made the team (me included first time) but it appears he along with other young guys are only there to play against the actual national team to prepare them for this tournament. Either way it sets him up well for the next tournaments if he can continue to improve in the NBA.
That looks to be correct:
https://www.nba.com/spurs/news/derri...ll-select-team
Joining White on the 2019 USA Basketball Select Team, which will be coached by Jeff Van Gundy: Jarrett Allen (Brooklyn Nets); Marvin Bagley III (Sacramento Kings); Mikal Bridges (Phoenix Suns); Jalen Brunson (Dallas Mavericks); John Collins (Atlanta Hawks); Pat Connaughton (Milwaukee Bucks); De'Aaron Fox (Sacramento Kings); Joe Harris (Brooklyn Nets); Jonathan Isaac (Orlando Magic); Mitc Robinson (New York Knicks); Landry Shamet (Los Angeles Clippers/Wichita State); Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks).
"The purpose of the Select Team is to help prepare our National Team for the World Cup and to offer an opportunity for some younger NBA standouts to be involved in the USA Basketball National Team program," said USA Basketball Men's National Team Managing Director Colangelo. "These 13 players help extend the legacy of elite players who have been part of USA Basketball Select teams. Not only will this group help prepare the United States for the FIBA World Cup, but it will also provide them with valuable experience at the USA Basketball National Team level."
The select team might be better than the actual Team USA this summer tbh
Come on man
One weak ban for BatManu20, tbh.
Just the same. The experience against good compe ion should only help DW more. Plus time to recruit other players
Or be recruited...
This tweet by Tom orsborn is misleading saying that he soak up more of Pops wisdom. Except for the fact that JVG is coaching the select team.
I literally just quoted the tweet tbh.
They call up players from the select team to the big club periodically. With the guys canceling, especially in the back court, it should happen again. White has a chance to be that guy if he outcompetes the rest of the select-team guards. Worry though that Pop would be resistant to looking biased so much that he would pass on White even if Derrick earns it.
Is this an edge over Murray at all in the pecking order?
That is exactly what I was thinking earlier. Pop wouldn’t dare to choose his own player to avoid looking biased.
If you’re asking if it’s an edge because he was chosen then no. I believe White has helped with Team USA in the past so he was already a candidate. But if you’re meaning for the future then it’s possible.
