Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be out for the season, the team announced Monday.
"Roethlisberger had an MRI on his right elbow Sunday evening and it was determined by the Steelers' medical team that surgery will be required, coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement. "We expect the surgery will be scheduled for this week. He will be placed on our Reserve/Injured List and is out for the season."

Around The NFL will have more on this story soon.

Mason Rudolph played very well in his absence, leading his team downfield multiple times and throwing 2 touchdown passes in the 4th quarter. He is the Steelers' quarterback of the future. Might they consider trading Ben to a team next year that feels they're a "quarterback away"?

Not impossible he could pull a Luck, he's been slowly disintegrating it seems for years (injured every season) and he's 37.

If Rudolph does cement the Steelers' QB role this year, some team that misses out on Tua or Herbert or maybe Fromm could come calling. I don't think Ben is the type that would ever acquiesce to being a backup, though. He'd simply retire, like Romo after the Cowboys refused to trade him or trade Dak.

He’ll come back. If anything taking a full year off will extend his career. There’s not a question in my mind that Brady having a full season in the middle of his career where he was basically out the whole year prolonged his career.

This was basically a retooling year anyway. Let's see what Rudolph can do.

he'll be back, but probably not on the Steelers. If Rudolph shows real starter promise they can't just bench him; he'd demand a trade, which would leave them SOL long term when Ben really does call it quits. You have to keep the in bent if the in bent is good. Even Loyal Jerry Jones didn't give his prodigal son Romo back his job.

I think Cousins wins a super bow with that 2008 Panthers team, it was loaded at every position other than QB.

That one is harder to tell but probably, the Patriots defense played like in the super bowl that year, Delhomme just wasn’t as ty then so it’s not clear if Cousins would have been much of an improvement. In 2008 Delhomme was really shorty and clearly lost his team games.
