The Turks toyed with the americans. They promised they would only go 5km deep into Syria, but now are on their way to 30km deep, this is because they want to take the M4 highway. This is the only highway that connects the northern area of Syria. Without that highway the American forces are ed. USA will have to cut and run and totally leave the area. They have no choice now.
Assad is rushing his troops north to retake the Kurd areas, at the request of the Kurds and help hold back the Turks who are not in 100% in control of the terrorist militans of the Syrian National Army (formerly Free Syrian Army)
Turks literally unleashed hordes of US trained barbarians on civilian areas. US is powerless, it will be up to Assad and Russia to clean the mess.

- get Kurds to join Syrian army and Syrian country as Syrians under Assad
- hold off Turk/Jihadi attack from the north
- once jihadis from north have been eliminated, regroup and retake Idlib
