Texas's trade with Mexico is 180 billion or so per year. A tariff laid on corn in this particular year would hit us at the pump as well as the dinner plate -- flooding has decimated the Corn Belt and washed away a lot of topsoil.
The economic impact of tariffs on Mexico could be huge, and it would hit Texas hard.
