Apparently the NBA found it enough of a problem that they’ve now ins uted a rule that teams have to be honest about listed player heights, standardized to height when players are barefoot. Commonly known that some players like to embellish their heights either way, now there’s more truthful listings.

    Notable changes (barefoot):

KD now listed at 6’10 (actually 6’9.5 so he wasn’t lying too bad)
    Porzingis 7’3
    Donkey shrinks to 6’5
Boban gets an extra inch 7’4 - John Wick knew he was bigger
    D12 reduced to a biblical 6’9
The great Zion is in fact 6’6
JJ Barea’s midget status safe, down to 5’10
Isaiah Thomas casually sits at 5’8

Not in the above link, apparently Klay Thompson now 6’5. And LeBron has been for the most part honest, 6’8.5.

I never understood why tall nba people add inches to their height. You're already taller than the average man by several inches and feet. Why lie?

The biggest lie is Steve Nash listed at 6'3. I've met him several times and he is at best 6'1.

Back when every team had to have multiple 7-footers, guys that were 6'11" would constantly say they were 7'0".

IIRC it was Garnett that went the other way, wanting to be listed as less than 7'0" so as to justify him playing so much on the perimeter, in an age when 7-footers "just didn't do that".

Many of these aren't even lies... in the old days, there was no standard for measuring height so players naturally claimed the better height while wearing sneakers. All the players who are 1" shorter than before are simply recording their barefoot height (the new NBA standard) as opposed to their height in sneakers.

So opposing coaches can’t game plan with correct height information about the other teams players. They’ve been doing it since literally the 1950’s. It’s an old trick coaches use thinking they can exploit a mismatch and give their team an advantage.

Surprising. Wonder if he shrank a little as he has aged.

    Donkey OTOH is zero surprise.

I think it was a well known fact around the league that Dwight has always exaggerated his height. He's never really looked overwhelmingly tall especially compared to other centers. He just had really long arms and could jump higher than most bigs. But as RDeMurre already intimated, some of these former heights aren't even really that off since many players would list their heights in shoes and often round up. If KD is 6'9.5 barefoot, he could have easily listed himself at 6'11 over the years. The ones that get me are Boban and Porzingis. If they're already that tall barefoot, they could have both listed themselves at like 7'5.

I don't think so. It's about impressing the public.
