Did anyone read the article? The jury deliberated on whether to grant custody to the dad. Not about the gender issue. There could have been plenty of evidence about him being a crappy dad.
Not that I support letting a child make a major medical decision like this but it's not really what the trial was about.

My guess is that this story isn't over and that dad may try to go to court over the gender transition.

Hormones given to young children are preliminary and reversible. They are not the same kind of hormonal treatment given to post-pubescent children.

Secondly, children don't just "make this decision". They are monitored for months by trained psychiatrists to ensure that this is not a decision being made on a whim, and there is *very* strict criteria that must be met before even the first round of treatments are administered.
