Pretty good. The deaging looked nice. All 3 main actors did a good job, but Pacino was the one that I would say was the best. For me it was kinda long and i think it could have been shorter. Still, it's definitely one of the best films I saw this year, which was kinda disappointing for me. I'd give it 7/10.

I always thought Pacino was a bit overrated but he killed it here. Might win the Oscar for best supporting actor.

Would it be fair to criticize the movie itself for the story it was based on? Frank Sheeran seemed like a lying sack of .
So was Henry Hill, didn’t hurt Goodfellas any.

The flaws in this movie are mostly in Scorsese's sentimentality in doing a “one last ride” movie with his buddies. It led to a lot of bad decisions that would have been fixed with a younger actor.

It was pretty good, but in terms of rewatchability, I don’t think it can top his other films like Goodfellas, Casino, Taxi Driver, and Wolf of Wall Street, for me.

It was great seeing Joe Pesci on film again, even though I thought his characters in other Scorsese films were more memorable.

Didn't Henry Hill gloss over the fact that he killed at least three people? He left good details out, while Frank Sheeran's story seems like bullsh.it. But you are right to an extent, because Goodfellas, The Wolf of Wall Street, and The Social Network were good movies despite not being accurate.

I guess, in the end, I would have been able to overlook the obvious lying if things like the bad CGI and extremely old actors didn't take me out of the movie. I wish Scorsese just used younger actors and broke the movie into two parts, but he doesn't have anything to prove to anybody anymore. It is what it is.

Meh, I think part of the appeal was having these guys play those roles.

Kind of agree with this. I enjoyed it but imo, it was not even close to Goodfellas or Casino.

Yeah...it wasn't and in fairness, it shouldn't be expected. Acting, like most talents, isn't age-proof. A bunch of granpas on both sides of the camera doing what they did extremely well the 40 years prior did something pretty darn good, all things considered.

Yeah...this is true to a large degree. But even if this was prime DeNiro et al., I didn't like the story as well. I would have liked for them to have delved in to more of the local scene with Keitel instead of going off into the Hoffa story.

I know you're into do entaries, you need to check my dude Al Profit's Hoffa Do entary. If you're unfamiliar with Al, he's probably the best gangster/mafia/urban organized crime do entarian and his good is good for shoe-string budgets.

Thanks. I will check that out for sure. I just looked and I don't think I've seen anything he's done.

Good stuff. His History of Detroit, Gangs of NYC during the 70s are really good. Heavy into black urban crime of the 70s and 80s.

After rewatching it a few times, I actually think this movie is a masterpiece and top 5 for Scorsese. Goodfellas is more fun to watch, but The Irishman is the superior piece of filmmaking.

De-aged DeNiro is still clearly the worst part of this movie, but Joe Pesci’s performance is incredible and it’s by far his greatest performance, even better than Tommy in Goodfellas, or Harry in Home Alone. Thread have you seen this?

The death knell in 10. is he shamelessly whines to the kids and quits because Whitaker takes his pants down, thus ruining what had been painstakingly put down (for us) from '61 to that very moment...the breaking of his thumbs behind frosted glass, the suicide by (her) [Perverted, Twisted, Crippled] the heartbreaking abandonment of his manager, all of it pissed away in 3 minutes.

Done is done, nothing you can do about it now.

    ---------

    1. is the purest, the most beautiful. Setting the Shepherd girl in there like that was a stroke of genius. The violence is not hidden by the ratings, he must have been given a blanket pass to get it all thru to (us). It is a flawless motion picture event, and an American masterpiece. Film. American film.
