You've got to respect the fact that this site allows such freedom of expression. yeah, trolls are annoying and all, but i'll take them any day over asshole message board police. just use the ignore function.
Agreed but slurs, racism, and pornography make me hide this place from my kids... have had to hide signatures and ignore a lot of people. shouldn’t have a place here imo... say what you will but it’s hard to project an image of professionalism with the face of the site and features when the heart of the site is so toxic...

the features are really a great pitch and the content is exceptional, I just doubt people stay when they see the forums... unless all you want is the view, then it should be fine

ST has always melted down following losses to the Lakers, to be fair. There's been good discussion this season. ST will never be troll free like SpuReport or whatever it was called (does it still exist?) but there's legit Spurs discussion, even if you have to sometimes dig below the top level trolls, IMO.

I appreciate an unmoderated or lightly moderated forum. But the racist and phobic stuff has got to go. It sure seems like you’re making an honest push to move this site up another notch or two but I don’t see this place reaching the level you want it to reach when anyone “not in the know” opens this forum up to extreme phobia, attacks of sexual orientation and outright racism.

I think there’s some middle ground you should consider. We can still have free and open dialogue without the hardcore bigotry.

On a scale of 1-10 if your moderating at a 1 move it to a 3. Which is more la ude than 90% of other forums out there. I’m certain participation will rise. Quality participation carries far more value than someone having the freedom to call someone else a bunch of racist slurs.

A lot of people I know don’t use this site for the reasons listed above. Love it or hate it but most casuals have a severely negative outlook about Spurstalk... there’s just this stigma that oh it’s spurstalk, don’t wAste your time there... nobody really takes us serious... spurstalk now is how the nba was in the 80’s tbh

The site takes after it's supreme leader Tim-Jong Il, tbh.

All we really need is the ability to ignore posters and hide their quotes too. Make them completely disappear. This should extend to hiding threads started by ignored posters. Then if someone says enough stupid stuff, they just get ignored by everyone. Community ban, in effect.

But yeah, you have a point. The level of discourse has certainly gone downhill. It's like some people don't know what it's like to support a team that isn't way above average.

It is crazy how much negativity is on this site sometimes... and its not just after a loss to the Lakers either.

I don't know what could be done about it though other than more bans but they would only make alts so it doesn't matter in the end. I do feel that the site does lose some credibility though when it has a toxic community.

But seriously if it wasn't for some of these trolls though the site would be dead lol. Who would y'all endlessly argue against?

great post jermaine i personally cant wait for that troll Play Boban to leave spurstalk
Play Blair needs to go first.

You can actually have entertaining and engaging trolls. Sadly, none of those exist on ST, just lame shtick losers, copying each others' stupidity.

It's not that. The problem is them no longer being that caliber of team is self inflicted/they were screwed to an unprecedented degree.

If they had either a 6th championship or the assets they should have and modernized their approach some, I think most would be fine with the direction, no matter the record.

Use to be way worse. Been a lurker way longer than an active poster. There use to be next to zero morals up in here. Maybe it’s the same and I just don’t spent as much time? Regardless, still the best Spurs forum I know of.

ST by far has the most knowledgeable Spurs fans on the net. Sure, some trolls are annoying but it's pretty easy to spot them and ignore them. You want this to turn into a Reddit style circle jerk? I got banned for saying Mills is a no defense playing bum. Is that a lie?

You just kind of learn how to weed through the garbage to find the good stuff. Kind of like shopping at a garage sale.

Honestly, though, the new format is great, the articles are top notch, and trolls can be ignored. It's at least entertaining to see the short bus kids try to troll.

I don’t mind the periodic trolling. It’s par.

But I do hate the multiple troll accounts. It’s ridiculous. Should be one account per poster. The endless troll threads would go way down.
i agree alts have ruined the sub forums

I'll always take a bit of trolling (I'm not the last) if that means freedom and place for sarcasm and self-derision... I've been banned for "harassment" from another board just for inviting a member to "get real"...

So what? Is the solution really to just keep beating the dead horse?

Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. It's the incessant complaining, the same thing over and over, which is driving this board into the gutter. Believe it or not, it's possible to say some positive things about the players and coaching staff, every single one of them.

If they had either a 6th championship or the assets they should have and modernized their approach some, I think most would be fine with the direction, no matter the record.
The 5 championships they have evidently aren't enough, why would a 6th matter?
What kind of assets "should" the team have had? We can never know what the Spurs were truly offered for Number Two.
The Spurs finished 7th in ORtg last season despite being dead last in 3 point rate.

    And yet, here we are.

It's hard to focus on anything else when you just keep coming back to the fact that they have no business being in the situation they're in.

Professional sports is essentially fantasy land and the percentage is closer to the other way around.

Because they could have had a 6th by holding onto S bag when they got pathetic offers. The Warriors were due for mileage to catch up and injury to strike and they'd have been best position to capitalized.
Basically every superstar/star who wanted out recently, their team did well in the end. The one who didn't is the one who supposedly had (I'd argue Davis is at least equal) the best player. They should have received at least what the Pelicans did for Davis.

And? It was always going to be fools gold. The bracket broke perfectly and so did the first half of the series, only for them to piss it away anyway.

You either have to block or fight back so the assholes know it's not appreciated.

I am not the blocking kind of person so I just call out the miserable haters and phobes each time I see it.

Also, lol @RD2 acting like he's not part of the problem on here.

You think neph would have played for us last year more than 25 games? He would have sat out and made everyone miserable, even you already miserable insufferable "fans."

Try looking at the Spurs run as something to be appreciated rather than defecated upon. That's not to say everything is sunshine and rose petals. But your first inclination should not to be to torch the thing down. This team has achieved unparalleled success in sports history. Good thing you aren't a "fan" of another team like the 76ers or even Celtics or Lakers.

Grow the up and cheer your team on. They are in good, no great, hands.

I do. It's easy to say in the off season that he wouldn't have, but ultimately he'd have had no choice. He wouldn't have got paid if he didn't report and he'd have thrown another prime season in the garbage and done irreparable damage to his precious reputation/"brand"/"legacy".

What does that have to do with the current predicament they find themselves in? Let's not act like they're blameless in it. From the archaic style/way they operate to the infamous trade itself; no one had a gun to their head forcing them to do it.

A real fan is willing to criticize their team . . . even if it upsets you apologists.
