The guy miscalculated the interest on his property taxes. The County took his home, sold it, and kept all the proceeds.

Did they really not attempt numerous times to tell him he owes $8? Seems like a solid lawsuit on the surface

Agree. Assuming that article hasn't left out any important information. But regardless of this particular case, it just seems wrong that they are allowed to keep the full balance of the sale when it's larger than the amount due.
It turns into a major profit center for the county.

Sounds like they took their cues from hoas that have taken homes from unpaid HOA dues

How is that possible? how would the rental income not cover it?

also, why wouldn't he just pay the property taxes on a rental house online like everyone else in 2019?

Some states (Michigan being one) are still archaic and don’t have online property tax payment set up.

That's ed. I have a strict policy of not doing snail mail. It's bull , archaic, asynchronous and unreliable. Do you have the list of these states? Because I have significant stake in this business. Thanks in advance.

that said, I don't realize how he didn't receive a mail letter with the exact amount at least once a year... why not just pay that amount annually and avoid any interest at all?

A lot of beautiful states. For shame. You at least think that more *progressive* states like NJ or MA would get with the times, wtf.

try missing a year on your vehicle payments. See how that works when they repo it and sell it.

Yeah it's extreme but how many times did he up by not paying? How many letters did he not open or respond to? When he bought the property, did he not know it could be taken if he doesn't pay the property taxes?

When something seems unbelievable it's often because the person telling the story embellishes parts and leaves out critical information that would otherwise tend to balance the story. It could still be unfortunate, but it's told like he was forced to evacuate his dwelling over a few dollars, when in reality a rental property he owned was 2 years behind in tax payments. He took a year to pay 400 dollars. How ing broke is he?
