Nice read- appreciate the write up OP

The gist; Lyles' unexpected rotation spot has put Carroll's role in question, but Carroll's versatility could allow him to find minutes another way.
Nice read- appreciate the write up OP
Thing is, we're lucky to even be 4-3. We're certainly not 7-0 so as much of a surprise as Lyles has been, he hasn't played that extraordinary for Carroll NOT to get minutes.
My take is that the Spurs got confused and thought they were signing Jae Crowder.
Pop is taking losing Morris out on Carroll.
Lyles probably bought players coffee after training camp practice and it fits with Pop’s culture standard so he got playing time out of it
I used to get them confused all the time.
Nice write up OP. Really appreciate what you and others are doing for this site
demarre will get marco's minutes once pop is sure he's squeezed the last drop of juice out of that toothpaste tube
Thanks OP! I expect these type of quality threads win the battle over the rest of crazy/bizarre on ST.
I never thought the Carrol's sign would turn into this weird situation. I have to admit I would like to see him a bit more on court.
There might be something wrong with him, maybe some nagging injury. He looks in shape but he is not jumping.
In my opinion, it will be Marcos minutes that he will take. Unless we go small, him playing at the 3 is more useful than the 4.
he should be ahead of Marco already. But I’m sure Pop will give Marco until all star break or something like that lol
Thanks for the article. "Carroll provides a useful alternative to Belinelli." From your mouth to Pop's ear... hopefully.
I made a couple of comments here last week, and from the responses I learned that I was just about the only one who thought Carroll must have been brought in to soak up at least some of Beli's minutes at SF. I know he played a couple of seasons with heavy PF duty with the Nets, but even at his worst he's a better SF than Marco.
Trey was surprisingly a better fit and nobody expected that. Carroll was always gonna be Demar’s backup but still seems lost out there. He would eventually get Beli’s minutes or when Spurs need to defend. I was really hoping Lonnie would get them minutes. We might see more of him against more athletic Celtics coming.
I don't think they anticipated Trey Lyles playing well enough to be a starter. It's only a matter of time before he takes Marcos minutes though.
in the ideal world, he should get every minute of Marco and play full time as sf, the pf rotation is already complete.
in fact I never saw logic in Carroll as pf in San Antonio after Lyles (and Morris*) were signed.
You have the order wrong. It was Morris, who would be our starting PF, no questions, first. Then Carroll, who was to play some PF and some SF. When the Morris thing fell through, they signed Lyles off of the scrap heap.
I think what they're looking at now is "Can Lyles be an important piece with the New (post DD LMA) Spurs?". He's vastly improved in the last 3-4 games, and just turned 24 a few days ago. He's a former #12 overall pick. If he can come in, score 10-12 points, rebound enough for a PF, and shoot maybe 35-36% from 3, that would be a huge 'get'. He's obviously knowledgeable about the game, understands where he needs to be, and where everyone else will be.

Demarre makes veteran 10th or 11th man money anyways. If he can squeeze himself in this deep of a rotation his contract would be worth it.
While I haven’t seen much from Carroll yet, it’s hard to see how he can be worse than belinelli, which is what his playing time suggests
Good , CD
Should've made this the summary of the article
