DD checks in and Spurs are up 103 to 91.


Spurs run White off a fake pick from DD. White tries to get pass Lillard, it breaks down before Blazers are called 3 secs in the key. DD makes the FT.


Spurs then runs a post up against Bazemore. DD hits the shot and appears he clearly got hit. No call.


Result: Spurs 1 point from the T and 2 points.


Blazers set a deep pick by Whiteside for Lillard who beats Poeltl and White for the layup.


Result. Blazers 2 points


Spurs run a set with White initiate the play. Forbes sets a pick for DD who misses the open J.


Result. Nil


Blazers quickly have Lillard go one on one with White and blows pass him. Poeltl contests and forces the miss but Whiteside tips it back in.

Spurs run White through 2 picks by our bigs. White shakes off his defender and misses the open J.


Result: Nil


Blazers have Bazemore put the jets on and get pass DD in transition and finishes over Poeltl with the And 1. DD gets called for slapping his arm.

Spurs have White use a handoff to DD with the two bigs setting a double pick for DD. The play breaks down due to the bigs positioning and DD then goes one on one with Lillard. Lillard flops and DD is called for the offensive foul.

Blazers run a motion offense with ends up Hood using Whiteside setting a pick. DD tries to sell this as a moving screen as Hood passes it to Lillard. Lillard blows by White and gives an easy Allyhoop for Whiteside.

Spurs run a iso post up for LMA. White entry pass is poor and LMA catches it near the 3 point line. LMA tries to take on Whiteside. Whiteside flops as LMA loses the ball.

Mccollum gets the ball from the TO then TO himself against Forbes.

White off the TO finds Forbes wide open. Forbes misses. Little gets the rebound over Lyles here in a 50/50 battle.

Off the scramble, Blazers find Whiteside in post position against White. White nearly gets the steal before Whiteside scores the basket.

Spurs have LMA set a pick for DD. LMA fades back and DD finds LMA for wide open for a J.

Lillard gets a quick pick from Little and finds Little open at the 3 point land. Little misses badly the ball goes through both Lyles and DD hands before Lillard misses the 3.

DD sprints up and gets in the lane. Swing the ball out to Forbes who puts the ball on the floor and gets fouled on the missed floater.

Blazers run Hood off a screen who goes one on one with DD. DD nearly causes the steal as Hood fumbles his way and hits the floater.

Spurs run the same pick n pop with DD and LMA. LMA gets the wide-open J in which he clanks.

Lillard quickly takes on White, and misses the open setback 3.

Spurs use White on the Pick n Roll with LMA. White gets to the hoop and misses the reverse laying. LMA miss times his offense rebound.

Lillard sprints up the court and gets blocked by Lyles on the layup attempt. Off the inbound, Mccoloum catches it in the corner and plays one on one jab step with Forbes before missing the contesting 3.

Spurs have White sprint down the court on the fastbreak but he gets picked off by Lillard.

Blazers have Mccollum drive on DD. Mccollum misses the floater and Lyles fights hard for the board and gets rewarded with a foul against Little.

Spurs run White pick n roll with LMA. White drives hard and is fouled on the dunk attempt. 1/2 FTs.


Result. Spurs 1 Point for FT


Blazers run multiple handoffs up to until McCollum gets a pick n roll with Whiteside. Forbes and LMA defend. McCollum drops it down for Whiteside. White reaches and gives Whiteside an And 1.


Result: 3 Points Blazers


Spurs run White pick n roll with LMA with a backscreen for Forbes. Blazers rushes Forbes off the line, who takes a long 2 and misses.


Results: Nil


Blazers have Lillard probe before McCollum gets a pick from Whiteside, guarded by LMA and White. Gay rotates down and defends the roll and his man Little gets an open dunk by McCollum.

Spurs run DD at the top against Hood. Gets to the rim and blocked by Whiteside. DD gets the ball back and takes Whiteside on. Draws the D in and finds Forbes open who misses the 3.


Result: Nil


McCollum gets 2 picks early and then takes White on one on one in the middle of the lane. White contests (gets away with a foul), McCollum gets the rebound and puts in back in.


Results: Blazers 2 points


Spurs run White and LMA pick n roll. It breaks down and Gay puts a poor pass into LMA, who gets Whiteside to bait before drawing the foul. However, refs call this a travel.

2mins: Spurs 111 to 111


Blazers run multiple hands-off at top before McCollum gets into the lane against Mills before pulling up with an open jumper and misses.


Result: Nil


DD gets the rebound and takes McCollum on one on one. McCollum gets away with a push and DD misses the high arching layup over Whiteside. Hood knocks the ball away from a potential LMA offensive rebound and Lillard out jumps Mills for the board.


Result: Nil


Lillard takes on Mills off a Hood screen and pulls up for his patent 3. Misses. Little then knocks the ball questionably off Gay.


Out of the inbound, Blazers have Hood take DD one on one. He makes the jumper with DD fouling him.


Result: Blazers 3 points.


Spurs have DD get a pick from White and DD drives for the layup over Whiteside.


Result: Spurs 2 points.


1min: Spurs 113 to 114


Lillard gets a deep pick from Whiteside with LMA and White defending. Lillard gets to the middle with White all over him. Lillard fakes White out before taking an off-balance midrange and misses.


Result: Nil


DD get a pick from White and DD drives for the layup. And we know what happened here. Hood fouls DD and refs call the off-ball foul on DD on the way down.


Result: 2 Points Blazers


Spurs run White in a pick with LMA, White goes the opposite side of the pick and goes against Mccollum and put up a poor off-balanced midrange and misses.


LMA fouls Whiteside but refs don't call it until Mills fouls Lillard


Result: Nil and 2 points to Blazers.




The point of this and was to show that when the ball is run with DD in the play, it's far more positive than White with more open looks for his team. DD should have been rewarded with more FT's down the stretch and was also called for the flop by Lillard. The And 1 foul on Hood was bad and so was the slap down on White earlier, and perhaps not securing a rebound that shot off Lyles and his hands. White too gave up some easy shots and points, plus gave away and And 1.


Down the stretch, the Blazers were trying to abuse LMA on the pick. Whilst the Spurs were focusing on trying to abuse Mccollum.


I hope that this little exercise and effort I put in demonstrate that DD is not to blame. He was not abused on D. He was hard done by poor officiating, and deserves and little more respect than the hatred displayed here. Plus that was some bad officiating.

yah tbh spurs played probably their best game for the season in terms of intensity and aggression on both sides of the floor. refs were just shocking with inconsistent calls in the 4th quarter.

Pop has plenty of money and should be okay shedding a little to protect his players.

There are times where whining about officiating is just whining, and there are times where it’s justified. The past two games in clutch situations have been an absolute joke.
