I'm really just trying to make the point, that they know what they're getting into. Just like an Indy driver knows that he might die in a car crash. It's inherent to the job.
Could they and should they get a bigger pension? Probably. But in the end, they know what the risks are and what the pension plan is that they're signing up for. Either play or don't.
I'd rather the money go to the past players who 1) weren't getting paid big money and 2) played in an era where CTE wasn't recognized as a major issue.
