So we can leave now, right?
But I'm confused. We killed their military leader because there was an imminent attack that didn't happen. Now there was an imminent attack that actually happened and the president sleeps it off.
CNN, citing an Arab diplomatic source, reported that Iran notified Iraq in advance and that Iraqi officials then tipped U.S. troops before the attack began. A U.S. defense official also told CNN that Iraqis were told by Iran to stay away from certain bases.
The militaries of Finland and Lithuania, which had personnel at one of the targeted bases, said they received information about an imminent attack and had time to take shelter or leave the base.

Come on now. If (big if) he can show some restraint and call it even, I'll give him credit for doing the right thing by not escalating. Regardless of his thought process.
At this point, him not doing anything is fine with me.
Sure, we can applaud his not escalating further, but I can certainly question the inconsistency. Makes killing the general look like a big mistake now.
Chumpy the obtuse, re ed checkers player
lololol
for the umpteeenth time...
the arsonist in chief - gaslights a huge fire to distract...
then for the umpteenth time he backs off the fire and claims credit for putting out the fire he started
and again - you idiots scratch your head and say “huh- well - he deserves credit for.....”
saps
Iran gave advance warning they were going to hit the base so everyone could leave or shelter. They made it clear it was a face saving move for local consumption and they didn't plan to escalate beyond that.
Chump the warmonger!
I really don't know enough about the Middle East to make a definitive comment on that. If the general was as big a deal as reported, then trading that for weathering a missile attack seems like a good deal.
I doubt that Trump knew this was going to be the outcome when he pulled the trigger given the broad range of outcomes. But if this is all that happens, he came out on top.
That being said, I personally don't think this is the end of it. And a bigger can of worms was opened than he (Trump) realizes.
I'll also add that Trump doesn't want to see $100 oil prices heading into an election so he has some incentive to not stir things up any more. Regardless of his motivation, this is a good thing.
How so? Bush and Obama passed on taking action against him because the cost would be too high. If this is the end of it then the cost has been Iran blowing up some sand. That's a Trump W any way you slice it.
trump has yet to show evidence - and never will voluntarily- that his hit wasnt an illegal assassination
so if the dems still have the stomach - they should investigate the assassination
think of this: what if the dems had not won the 2018 election
trump and the gop would commit crimes at will
nope
dems have to keep a leash on this piece of until he is prosecuted
It's way too soon to say this is over or that Iran has confined itself to a face saving move -- has Iran actually announced it is done retaliating for Soleimani?
Trump announced more santcions this morning. If implemented, that's an escalation.
Yeah hopefully Mueller hurries up. Any day now amirite?
46-1 looks terrible. Like they had to drag his fat ass out of the bed to speak.
so, no ww3? OMG, thank god, now i can stop to panic on twitter and i can remove my iranian flag from my profile.
The military won't think it's a win if Iraq kicks us out of the country.
Personally I'm OK with us getting completely out of that hole part of the world.
Explain the chess game to me, General.
Step up.
So now after an actual attack, do nothing.
It's a win! Trust me!
So what do you want to do Chump? Nuke em?
ing warmonger.
What a ing load. Looks like maybe we got lucky that Iran wanted to be the adults in the room. Taking out their #2 guy was reckless as .
straw man
DMC wanted to keep attacking. You need to get things straight.
I want to hold our president to a higher standard than you.
Sorry.
ing apologist.
You don't understand Daddy Trump's chess game.
you.
I said originally killing the guy was a mistake.
So he can either escalate or not. If he chooses to not, then he made the right choice.
Even stupid people make the right decisions.
I'm not crowning him the king of foreign strategy but I don't have any problem crediting him for making the right decision.
you right back.
You agreed with me.
