the max vs the supermax 200m is what he wants
I see bad things ahead for the Lakers.
They mortgaged their future, but for what?
He will look good in Denver next year when he decides to play with more than 1 good player.
Only New Orleans could have offered him the supermax.
This is likely just Davis waiting until the end of the year so he can get a five year deal with 8% raises. Even if he only wanted a four year deal he'd make almost $10 million more over the entire contract by signing with the Lakers this summer rather than now.
He's bolting to Chicago.
When he suffers a career ending injury he'll look like an idiot. If he doesn't then he makes out ok.
I don't know why people are making a mountain out of Davis declining a "max extension" when "max extensions" are always for less money than free agent contracts. Wow he didn't take a huge paycut from what the Lakers can legally offer him in six months, he must be leaving.
It will be interesting to see what teams are able to unload future salaries to cut payroll for next season. Because as of now, only Cleveland, Charlotte, Memphis, Atlanta would be able to tender a compe ive max free agent contract to Anthony Davis. Chicago is not close to having enough room unless Otto Porter opts out of his $28 million player option, and even if he did, they’d still be shy of full max cap space for Davis.
He's a mercenary that will try to bolt in 2 years like he said he would. Like all the new "star" player contracts they sign, they are only for 1-3 years then they try to hold the team hostage again and again.
He's already in the league's premiere media market and on its glamour team. Don't see him taking less money to leave and go play on a pretty garbage Bulls team. Chicago doesn't even have any capspace to go after him this summer. Also, when did Davis say he was leaving in two years?
Lakers will have cash to blow for decades, but spurs can't afford to be a lotto team and watching their talent walk away because their burnface coach/gm can't handle egos (something aplenty in the NBA) like Zen Master, riles or Kerr.
Who didn't know AD was going to turn down an extension? That was the plan from day one.
Lakers not offering this "top five player" the super max would've been the better thread le, tbh.
They can't offer him the supermax. Only New Orlans could have.
Today's MAGA NBA fans
Please. Explain why you would say such a thing. Wishful thinking?
