New COVID variant could push Israel into lockdown, health official warns

One million Israelis receive booster, as Pfizer submits first data to the FDA • School year start may be postponed if morbidity doesn’t drop, Health Ministry D-G says

A new strain of the Delta variant could force Israel into a lockdown, a health official warned Monday,

as Israel surpassed 50,000 active cases, up from fewer than 200 two months ago.

The strain comes from South America and was identified in the US.

“If it reaches Israel, we will get to the lockdown that we so desperately want to avoid,”

The strain appears to be more contagious and more resistant to the vaccines,

Even dr ding dong feeling the heat

I've heard some epidemiologists projecting another 400k deaths this fall/winter. I think that's why they are just going to tell everyone to get a booster of the exact vaccine they just got. If true you're going to get your biggest "called it" to date.

Might have been a mistake to only focus exclusively on vaccines targeting only the most mutable portion of the virus ( e). I mentioned a few times the booster I was hoping for was a live attenuated vaccine (codagenix) for an immune response to the full virus but that's "old tech" and the powers that be only seem focused on getting shiny new toys.

COVID outbreaks in rural Texas districts signal a troubled back-to-school season

Less than n week after students returned to school in the rural West Texas town of Iraan,

district officials were facing a COVID crisis on two fronts —

the virus was rapidly infecting students and staff, and

so many teachers were sick or in quarantine that there weren’t enough left to run the classrooms.

“We have more cases here in the first week than we had all of last year combined,”

“It’s about to get real bad and I hate to say it, but right now —

they don’t have to wear masks; the students don’t and the teachers don’t —

and they’re not taking it as serious as they should be,”

the closure of these small school districts is more proof that the COVID pandemic is still dangerous and needs to be taken seriously by the governor and school officials,”

“People must get vaccinated, and educators and students need to wear masks to school.

    “Every Texan has a right

    to choose for themselves

and their children whether they will wear masks, open their businesses, or get vaccinated,” Renae Eze, Abbott’s spokeswoman, has said.

a small uptick in vaccinations among 12- to 17-year-olds in the lead-up to the academic year.

Still, just about 1.2 million Texans in that age group have received at least one shot —

a little less than half of the statewide population of 12- to 17-year-olds, a rate that lags far behind the statewide average.

My wife came down with a runny nose today so she took a home COVID test, it was positive. Mine is too.

We've both getting PCR tests to confirm in the morning, but it's for pretty sure've got it.

I have no symptoms as yet, my sweetie just has a runny nose.

    Good Luck

If you both are in reasonably good health you should be fine

You can get monoclonals now if you have any comorbidities. Don't wait. 100% recovery on my wife's patients who do it and they're all old as dirt.

Thanks, I have no known comorbidities. My wife has clotting issues.

We'll see what our docs say pretty soon.

She's been very careful, 1/2 time working in person, they mask up and socially distance there. Doesn't really go out except for necessities.

I work in public every day, but there's an off chance we got it from/gave it to my dad and stepmom last week.

I feel like somewhat less of a freak for wearing my mask all the time at work, but my workmates are way laxer than me. I was telling my boss a just few days ago that if one of us got it we'd probably all get it. I hope I didn't give it to em.

as I understand it, current CDC guidance is to seek COVID testing for any upper respiratory symptom.

Thought it could have up to a 14 day incubation period? Or has that been shortened as we know more about the virus?
