Not at all, I think it's great that cases and hospitalizations are declining. Wish we could say the same for deaths, but hopefully soon we'll be able to. It's superficial imho to focus too narrowly on death and hospitalization. The systemic and chronic effects of COVID (organ damage, long COVID, immune derangment/senescence) ought to be just as concerning.
The immune escape is the most troubling thing about Omicron so far. COVID is now slipping past vaccines and natural immunity -- the rate of reinfection is leagues worse than any previous variant.

I would urge that the social effects of COVID also deserve equal-ish billing with death and hospitalization. The pandemic has interrupted courts, schools and regular employment. It has wrecked businesses and has decimated daycare and hospitals.
The price of letting er rip will have been quite high, with no herd immunity in sight.
So from your experience this is what the rest of the world will get.

Okay here you go.
My cousin did not get the booster and is now experiencing Covid.
He has been layed up now for 1 week. This is a young guy who operates his own construction business. His employees are now filing and cleaning up instead of at work because he cant get out in the field and look over measurements and what not to see if they can proceed. Some of the contractors he uses require he is on site before the begin a pour etc... So here you have a very small part of US business on hold because he put his guard down and forgot to mask up at an important event for one of his family members. "No one else was wearing a mask so it felt weird" I told him to put his fkn mask on and stay by the fkn door and just make an appearance here and there outside but it was cold.
Now have this happen in large swaths of the country and in schools. This is just great for schooling and business, right? Its preventable. Number 1, the guy thought he was young and fine and just kinda got locked up in work and failed to get the booster. Number 2, going to this stupid event in Texas in a town where you just dont wear masks... its uncool. His wife is now with him at his job in another town to take care of him. Now she is gonna get laid up.
I am going to bet people reacting poorly to Covid is a lot worse than reacting to the vaccine.
