In Trump's defense, in an election year, this was a death blow (combined with the asinine behavior and tweets). I'm not sure any president, Rep or Dem, would have gotten it right. Which probably would have meant shutting down the economy. Which in hindsight, might not have made much of a difference.

What we saw were all the hallmarks of somebody that's an extremely poor leader during times of crises. You can single-handedly point at him for politicizing this whole thing, blaming others, lying through the nose when we all actually know he knew better, adlibbing through it, etc...
The fact that we would still need clarification on what "right" means in the context of your sentence goes to show the level of corrosive bull he peddled. Times of crisis generally brings people together, if nothing for survival. This was the exact opposite.
Sure, other politicos might've also lost an election under those cir stances, but I think we would've had a response that was a lot less amateur.
