Yeah but did you think it was a good bill?
The main sticking point seemed to be that the democrats didn't want treasury to be able to use its judgement to allocate the 500 billion in the bill dedicated to saving threatened industries.

The Dems had the choice of either voting approving unnecessary corporate bailouts or being blamed for inaction. I’m glad they chose the latter.
Looked like a bill to me: weak UBI, weak sick pay, means testing poor people, guaranteeing lost wages to corporations without any obligation to keep workers on the payroll, but the thing that stank the most was the half trillion dollar slush fund administered by Mnuchin, who got super-rich on robo-signed foreclosures during the last recession. Half trillion bucks handed out by one guy, with no disclosure for 6 months.

How much you want to bet Mar A Lago is eligible for relief?

Corporate bailouts and assistance to regular citizens should be in separate bills. Holding one hostage to the other is bull , but hey, that's politics.

They also don't feel unemployment protection goes far enough, nor that there's enough protections for the bailout money to be used to do stock buybacks and/or be diverted to pay compensation packages in the top echelon.

Hotels, cruise companies and casinos don't need saving. Not essential at the moment.

Or do you think thay are?

That makes sense, but you know that while passing regular citizen bailouts is a political no-brainer, corporate handouts are more perilous in this situation... thus one won't pass without using the leverage from the other. Political games.

Property and profits are privileged over people, that's the American way.

Did the bill specify hotels, cruise ships, and casinos?

    As I understand it, no.

It specified a dollar amount and gave the US Treasury the ability to allocate as necessary. You are just spewing talking points.

Sounds like a fair criticism to me, I don’t want Mnuchin having unilateral discretion over $500 billion of American tax dollars to hand out to whoever he sees fit.

Cruise companies are awful in general. Labor exploitation, pollution and complete tax avoidance despite Americans being their primary customer base. Letting those companies fail would be a good thing, you’d lose a scarce amount of Americans jobs and you’d keep a lot of tourism dollars in the US.

That right there is the bull . I don't even think the recipients would have to be revealed.

I don't think anybody was looking for perfect. However, it's hard to tell if it even reached 'good' levels without looking at the text.

The transparency is the part I want. Mnuchin is free to make his case who needs the funds right now. Is he?

They've been negotiating for what, 4+ days? I'm sure there was concessions all around. The real question is why did this go to a vote when Mitch, out of all people, already knew he didn't have the votes to pass.

Like Wino said, split the bills, vote the aid package for hospitals and workers, there seems to be relative unanimity there. They can negotiate the rest later on.
