Frankly I can't think of a worse person who could be in charge right now. Pence sounds so much better when he's at the podium than Trump. Its not even close. And nevermind the tweets he's sending out tonight. I thought Bush 2 was the lowest we'd ever go. I couldn't have been more wrong. I'd kill to have Bush 2 back.
I think somebody like Louie Gohmert, or even Rand Paul would be worse. Trump is petty and slow, it took him like 3 weeks to come to terms, but eventually did. Never underestimate the capability of some people to triple down on stupid.

Shareholders are those who own stocks (there are major shareholders as well). I wouldn't consider appeasing them to be out of the realm of responsibility for corporations, and it doesn't make them evil.
My feeling on this is that we frame this debate (free market vs. "socialism") as an all-or-nothing scenario, in believing that either system will work the best across the entire economic and social landscape. Personally, I believe some industries, like healthcare, are incompatible with the profit motive. A healthcare corporation's number 1 priority should be saving lives, not making their shareholders happy. I think certain industries that might have deleterious effects on society if they're allowed to performed unregulated need a different set regulations than industries and business that don't, e.g. a chemical company should be more regulated than a donut shop. Boiled down, a mixed approach works best rather than capitalism for everything or socialism for everything, which we have to some extent, but I think there's need to be adjustment.

We obviously intuitively feel there's industries that shouldn't be private, like defense and law enforcement, but for some reason, we collectively don't think the same for healthcare. Not sure why.

Trump didn't kill 100s of thousands and displace millions from their homes in Iraq based on a lie, but I know what you mean.

His leadership in this as in so much else has been abysmal.

One would hope. There's been a good number of governors mentioning they're still lacking masks, gowns and tests, and have been having to purchase them from overseas, competing against other States requiring the same.

Hopefully this will be a thing of the past next week.
Bro. States competing against each other is how the system is set up. That’s federalism.

Imo because we have the best and worst healthcare among Western countries. We are leaders in biological science and research on the whole. No other country comes close. We have figured out some of the most difficult genetic and transmissible disease disorders. But basic stuff, it depends how much $ you make.

Yeah Iraq was horrible, but Bush is at least capable of empathy. I believe if Bush could go back and do things differently he would. Trump would just double down on his 10 out of 10 performance. Its honestly terrifying.

The federal government is the superior sovereign and can override the states in an emergency. That's federalism too.

We have great research but we in no way shape or form have the best healthcare. You can pick whatever metric you want to show that, and none of them show the United States as the best. I just don't know how you would make this argument and back it up in anyway.

You think he's come to terms?
I think he understands the seriousness of the situation. Took him 3 weeks, but I think he's there. He'll still say all sorts of banal and stupid things, because that's who he is. And sure, if you're looking for leadership and inspiration, you probably have to look somewhere else.

But he'll sign the bills when they get to his desk, that's gigantic progress right now.

During a regular situation sure. In a national emergency? No.

I can't think of a single comparable situation where the states would have to lead the way.

I do not think he understands the seriousness of the situation. If he did, he wouldn't have spent the press conference today talking about how no one ever thanked him.

Sorry, I can't reconcile those two things.

Let's just say that he at least won't be an obstacle once Congress get their together. He approved California major disaster classification today at the request of the California governor.

At this point, and considering his track record of re edness, this is huge progress.

Bro, I seemingly love this country more than some of the folks that were born here, tbh... true story.

Because the 1st two are roles, the 3rd is a service. Imagine the LE was run by multiple organizations, each bidding for contracts. Let one of their officers shoot an unarmed person. That wouldn't just lead to someone being relieved of duty - it would lead to loss of contract for the entire company. Stretch that to the military as well. What private company could spend enough to outfit carriers, air forces and land forces in hopes of landing a contract? Meanwhile, there are doctors who can open private practices without needing 400 billion as a down payment. Sure it's something we have to have to survive, but so is food. Should grocers be federally run? What about housing? Should that also be owned by the feds so everyone has the same house and there are no private builders?

The economic carnage is already happening.

Look at what's happening to sick people in Italy and Spain.

NY and Seattle aren't far behind.

People die every day and have since people have lived. Are you calling the seasonal flu results "inevitable carnage"?

You sensationalize it for whatever reason, perhaps you have a doomsday, Alex Jones type outlook on life.
