Hospitals 1st priority, Healthcare workers 2nd priority, pharmacies last.

It's the same here n Texas. My wife can prescribe it but the pharmacies can't get it.

Course of treatment is 14 doses. We have 21 million doses in a country of 350 million.

Tiger tests positive for coronavirus at Bronx Zoo, first known case in the world
The big cat is the first known case of a non-domesticated animal with COVID-19 symptoms—and is one of seven sick tigers at the New York zoo.

Somebody's been watching Tiger King a little too much.

This virus started in bats. So its not really shocking to find out they can get infected since they passed it on to humans.

The CDC has a vaccine priority list. I am dead last in that list.

Calling it like it is, tbh... I don't get the point of people outright lying on the twitteratzi for political points, but that's just how sad this is.

So he can prescribe it, his patient just can't fill it.
I have a HS classmate in s Philadelphia research hospital who is specialist in tropical diseases.

He says hydroxychloroquine is strictly reserved the most most severe victims.

I wonder if UK docs are giving it to Bojo

Absolutely. And there's nothing but high hopes that hydroxychloroquine does help in some capacity. However, anybody that calls it a cure and advances that it can replace a vaccine is flat out lying.

That's odd, because its only effective when given fairly early on.

Well, that would be difficult to prove, since we did far from nothing.

I guess we could see how things play out in Sweden.

I don't think anyone is suggesting "dumbing down how models work". I would suggest we examine the assumptions and inputs.
Getting hammered. Adjusted for pop, they went from their first death (March 11th) to their 12000th death in about 24 days.

Our first 24 days went from 1 to 708. So Sweden is growing at a much, much higher rate. Furthermore, if they are going for the herd immunity strategy, it'll be easier to achieve in a country with 10 million people than 330 million. The US's best strategy to mitigate death and economic collapse is to tenuously open regions like Texas, California, Oregon, and any other region where there's a "natural social distancing" due to population density, a favorable climate (assuming the warm weather/UV light theory holds), and a transportation infrastructure that doesn't rely on mass transit. Cold weather and densely populated regions will have to remain in shutdown for longer.

And if this does die down in the Summer, those months shouldn't be used for "economic recovery," but to prepare for the inevitable new wave that will come when late Fall begins. That said, this preparing could help economic recovery in the form of some kind of public works program where out of work people are hired to help in this regard, either by building/converting hospitals, manufacturing PPE, and what have you. All Americans have to accept life will not get back to normal (when the true economic recovery can begin) until we get a vaccine and proven treatments and then herd immunity.

I know it's anecdotal, and thus should be taken with a grain of salt, but I've been in contact with some co-workers in Sweden, and it's far from a free for all too. As a matter of fact, he mentioned that one thing they did right early on was contain tourists from Italy and a number of other places going to ski resorts, etc.

On the models side, pointing out discrepancies makes sense, and it's even expected to an extent. Using that as a crutch to dismiss it and advance political points is at the very least disingenuous, or flat out ignorant, IMO.

So it's something else that's primary driving the hopelessness and depression. There's been pretty strong correlations of the rise of social media and the rise of suicides, especially among young people.
labeled "suicides of despair", guns, drugs, alcohol. Unemployment going down ( ty jobs) and oligarchy getting richer, but many 10Ms are still trying to make rent, paycheck to paycheck, a $1000 emergency would exceed their bank account (if they have one)

the three links I posted above, way too long and complicated for rightwingnutjobs and self-satisfied rich boys, show clearly from earlier pandemics that "suppression" works better than "mitigation"

and letting up on suppression too soon invites one or more peaks

It's the same in a lot of states... not to mention a lot of people depend on that drug too for other diseases. There's undeniably a shortage, as it's expected in such a crisis situation.

I don't want to score any points. If our outcome is toward the low end of the uncertainty band, we should all pat ourselves on the back for the collective sacrifice.

Well, we can compare recovery times for those that take it, vs control. That's why they are conducting trials. Based on what anecdotal info I've heard, I'd ask my doc for off label scrip.

I know we're not out of the woods yet, but I'm pretty proud with a number of States... California containment has been remarkable vis a vis the population, Oregon shipping out ventilators to NYC is what America is all about, etc.
