Might be nice to have some kind of temporary unemployment setup for this pandemic so people with McJobs can self quarantine when sick instead of passing it on at the grocery store, McDonalds, in their uber, etc. LMAO that the Republican solution to slowing the growth of infections is moar tax cuts. Trump cutting the payroll tax is really going to incentive hourly workers to stay home instead of paying rent and eating right?
So the Manhattan lawyer is a good case study. He's in critical condition. His wife and 2 kids are positive but she says they wouldn't even know they were infected because they feel fine.

I keep telling you, this isn't getting stopped. It's a global endemic disease even if nobody wants to admit it yet.

Keep telling yourself Joe or Bernie would have stopped it if it makes you feel better.

    What are you suggesting?

Tests were offered today in SA
    They were refused

    What is your solution?
I don't pretend to have a solution, I just wish our government would take it more seriously qua danger to public health.

Perhaps the clinic in SA could offer testing to exposed healthcare personnel who've been exposed but were refused testing by the CDC because they didn't meet the testing criteria.

You're strawmanning what I'm saying. I know it's not being stopped. It would be nice to try to slow it a bit vs where it would be with no action whatsoever. You think sick people with higher viral load going to work because they have to make rent and put food on the table isn't going to accelerate the spread vs if they stayed home and had a way for subsistence level existence?

Perhaps if libertarian free thinkers like SnakeBoy in the US Congress and the West Wing hadn't been so eager to dismantle pandemic preparedness and international coordination, we'd not have been caught with our pants down, or been so blasé about the outbreak.

Every normal human likes the way that sounds
    Only comparatively.

A 0.7% fatality rate for a virus as contagious as this is horrifying in and of itself.

If you don't believe it, let's revisit this data point in a few months.

So much for the voluntary quarantine and the sinister plot to plant an infected reporter on Air Force One to infect Trump:

Trump will be the first recorded infection via analingus.

Can you think of any reasons why, with a similar number of reported cases as South Korea, the rate of fatality is 5-7 times higher in Italy and Iran?

Mightn't it be possible aggressive testing/treating people earlier in the infection cycle leads to better outcomes?

It's also possible that lax testing leads to underdiagnosis.

Two points here: if the extent of the spread of the virus is undermeasured, the overall death rate will look higher; underdiagnosis may also cause higher mortality, cases will be missed, or treatment will start too late to make a difference.

Seems a political emphasis on public health preparedness and prompt, coordinated countermeasures can make a difference on how fast a disease spreads. It might also save a few lives.

It's not about stopping, it's about containment and slowing down the infection rate while we expand testing and develop a vaccine. Just trying to buy time. The last thing you want is to have a collapsing healthcare system because everybody is panicked every time they have a cough.

Frankly, the US is ill equipped to deal with a plan like that. Not because the tech is lacking, but because it's all about the money. While your average ST poster making 7 figures can certainly self-quarantine for 14+ days, your average worker isn't getting that benefit.

lack paid leave off for 50% of US workers means many will go to work it's-just-the-flu/a-cold sick rather than lose money, their car, their apt, their house, just like they have been doing before covid-19

Not directed at you, just wonder how many “all for the working man here” drop 10% or less. My son in college During summers waited at a restaurant teeming with millennials and tips were pathetic.

the coronavirus is 25x more powerful than a flu

1 in 6 that show symptoms has to be hospitalized

1 in 5 of those hospitalized becomes critical

Tips give power to, (moral, ethical) judgement by the waited-on over the waiter, esp to punish the waiter.

And power to people over is fundamental to American Capitalist civilization.

Trump is a stupid ing moron for tweeting yesterdays tweet about only 500 infected

just one day later there are almost 800 infected

in a week we will most likely have many thousands

Trumps stupid tweet from yesterday will look even dumber

    stupid orange bas

    (still better than Shillary)
