I think it can still mutate in ways that make it spread easier. If it could be spread from people to insects for example. Or survive in the water. Things like that. If it could mutate to be transferable between more species, I don’t know how you’d stop it. Can’t easily quarantine birds.

It's already spreading through the respiratory system like influenza, it doesn't get more infectious than that.

As far as transferrable to more species, it doesn't work that way. It takes a new mutation to infect a different species. That's what this is. Like I said, they believe this one went bats->snakes->humans, now human to human.

Like I said, it's worrysome. SARS infected 8000 people but it took like 4 months. Two more confirmed cases in US today. is moving around quick.

I'm sure this strain just like SARS, MERS, or influenza for that matter are not killing their host. It's the cytokine storm that does the killing.

Most effective drug to stop/prevent cytokine storm is nicotine which of course will never be used by the medical community. If there's ever a serious viral pandemic and I get a fever...well me and nicorette

If a virus causes your body to kill itself it makes no difference.
The virus needs to calm the down like the cold.

Secondary infections are the things that usually get people, not the virus. The virus just helps the environment become a haven for stuff like pneumococcal . You could even say the bacteria does not kill you, it merely drowns you in your own lung fluid.

Problem is they have fairly delicate receptors that recognize your cells and allow them to attach and inject their genetic material. The protein receptors on the viral surface degrade quickly outside a nice warm fluid environment.
I have not seen anything on this but have not read much.

It is interesting how different press outlets are treating this when it’s still so new.

Though these types of viruses can survive "a little better" in cold, wet environments like the Pacific Northwest, they usually only survive hours on surfaces.

So, even if you get something shipped from Wuhan, China, you're likely not going to get sick from coming in contact with a package.

The article I read earlier talked about how when they say it remains on surfaces for days it's true because you can swab it and test for the virus but it's no longer infectious, broken strands at that point.

so no, most likely this flu wont kill you but if it becomes pandemic you will suffer 100% sure of this

12 years ago lower respiratory tract infection was the 12 leading cause of death in China, stroke was number 1. Pretty sure this corona virus death toll will be a spec on the lens of 12 overall eventually but the fear factor makes people panic. Panic sells.

Ebola was going to kill all of us. West Nile was going to once upon a time. SARS, Avian flu, HIV... all going to destroy the world. I'd bet more people died from stress related illnesses worrying about most of these than died from the actual diseases.
