That free COVID-19 testing isn't free to many,

and Trump isn't going to fix that

Back in April, the Trump administration
announced it would require private health insurers to provide free antibody tests for coronavirus.

"It is critical that Americans have peace of mind knowing that cost won't be a barrier to testing during this national public health emergency

    People are getting
surprise bills for the coronavirus tests

"about 2.4 percent of coronavirus tests billed to insurers leave the patient responsible for some portion of payment, according to the health data firm Castlight."

hundreds of thousands of people are not getting the free testing promised by the administration.

Congress has made it really clear that there shouldn’t be cost sharing for Covid-19 testing,”

The charges in some cases are violating the law,

but those violations only count as far as there is an effort on the part of the government to enforce the law.

it's all about how the doctor or clinic or hospital providing the test coded it.

It's all the fault of our complicated medical billing process and,

if there's a number wrong, what are they to do? They go after the patient.

with her test, which was billed as two tests, diagnostic and for antibodies:

"she logged into her health insurance portal and saw four claims associated with her tests:

    one for each test,
one for the doctor visit, and
one for other tests she didn’t realize were being ordered."

"Patients at a drive-through coronavirus testing site in Texas, for example, were

unknowingly tested for sexually transmitted diseases."

The insurance companies were, of course, billed for those tests and in many cases would pass the cost on to patients.

Regulations from the administration could remedy that. If the administration cared.

Trump and his team clearly don't care.

They've moved on from the pandemic and

it is immaterial to them whether people come out of this alive and financially secure.

So by age the effect diverges so that one affects the infected individual more than the other. Also, people are not being mass tested for influenza, so really we only have CFR for that since IFR is largely unknown, even then only the very symptomatic influenza cases are being considered. Does that sound right?

It's quite possible plenty die from the flu who are never recorded as such.
We have several studies that have homed in on IFR.

It is not "unkown" and is in the order that was postulated way back when this all began.

somewhere around .0050, with the range of studies putting it between .0025 and .0068 to what I have seen.

We can get CFR by simply using IFR to back into the data. fatalities/IFR = total cases, total cases/fatalities = CFR. simple math.

cool thread about how some African countries are coping with COVID-19

They have a well developed contact tracing infrastructure because of hte other diseases they deal with.

This is not really puzzling to anyone who studies the , just to the idiot journalists breathlessly saying what "scientists" trying to say.

So subclinical and asymptomatic mean nothing? How the do you know who has the disease who is asymptomatic? You simply don't. It's a guess.

More Republicans look to join the House 'What coronavirus threat?' caucus

Trump isn’t the only Republican downplaying the seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic.

He’s joined in that disregard for human life by many Republican lawmakers—

and by many of the Republican candidates who hope to reclaim some ground in the House in 2020.

That’s both because this is Trump’s party and because

Republicans have long put their version of the economy (the economy of the rich and corporations)

above the health and lives of working people.

Republicans join Trump in owning the United States’ pandemic failures.

And they must not get the power to make things even worse.

and 12% of all cases are pediatric (under the age of 18).

Spain has quitely been enduring a second wave for quite a while now. And it looks as though France's second wave is greater than the first.
