I mean I wash my hands a lot and try to be careful about what I touch, but am I not supposed to talk to people, go shopping, get the mail, drive my car, etc? All I'm hoping to accomplish with being careful is not increasing the rate of infection. If I don't get it it'll be mostly because I got lucky based on how this is projected to spread.

Yeah this is how I feel. I ride the filthy ass DC metro to work everyday. Nothing I do when I’m not on the metro is going to change how many people I come into contact with on a packed ass subway ride, so there’s no point in going nuts about it.

I think the thing about not touching your face is one of the biggest factors. I've developed a good habit of NOT doing that over the years. I've rarely had the flu. Plus, I've been working from home since 2014 or so.

I recognize there is risk. I carry hand sanitizer and paper towels in my truck. I use a paper towel to operate the gas pump. I take advantage of the alcohol wipes to clean the handle of shopping carts. I consciously not touch my face until I can wash my hands after general exposure. I know I still might get it.

That's not going to save you when the HEB bagger coughs. Especially not if it turns out this is airborne and not just passed by droplets (jury still seems out on it). Through no fault of your own you still have a great chance of getting it if it progresses as expected, eg infecting until it has infected enough to not be easily transmittable any more. It's great you are taking a ton of precautions and I hope everyone else here is too but there are too many chances to get it from a population that is largely going to get stricken with it, and it'll only get more likely over the next months most likely. I have no illusions of being in control here other than trying to minimize what I reasonably can without becoming a nut like Howard Hughes. I do expect to get it at some point.
