True, but only for one country.

What's your point? That new es aren't possible here?

That only the most vulnerable Americans deserve protection from contagious disease, despite the life changing effects it can have for people of any age?

judging COVID-19 by mortality alone is the soda straw view, tbh.

the bigger the caseload, the more morbidity, long haulers and outlier outcomes.

it were well to keep the COVID-19 caseload down in the US regardless of the level of mortality, JMO.

Soda straw view was fine all of last year though.

Not sure what you mean. A soda straw isn't a field glass or a microscope. It's just a narrow aperture.

Mutations of the coronavirus could render current vaccines ineffective within a year, according to a survey of experts in 28 countries.
Of those surveyed, almost a third gave a time frame of nine months or less.
Fewer than 1 in 8 said they believed that mutations would never render the current vaccines ineffective.

Two-thirds thought that we had "a year or less before the virus mutates to the extent that the majority of first-generation vaccines are rendered ineffective and new or modified vaccines are required."

For many it was, but it wasn't and isn't for me. Avoidable mass death is newsy for sure, but one data point seldom tells the whole story, don't you agree?

DarrinS's stoic flex is to deny and minimize the danger of COVID-19.

He's been doing this since the beginning of the pandemic. He's still doing it.

    Hopefully someday, he'll be right.

The more common flex (you see it with posters like DMC and Snake Boy, but it's general) is a heroic tolerance for the morbidity and mortality of others.

There's no need to deny or minimize the danger of COVID-19 if you deny the importance of human health and saving lives first.

You're the one who used the term. There's a huge thread here doing just that.

The various COVID minimzers in this thread seem to be narrowly focused on the risk of death, ignoring morbidity, disability and persistent post-infection symptoms that interfere with life and work.

    Why might that be?
