Vaccines work well against P1, recently posted in the "treatment and vaccines" thread.

Newspapers here seem to be calling it the "Manila strain"

UK has still travel ban on brazil tbqh. So imo its not known how well they are vs brazil. We should not take the vaccine makers announcements as facts.

    Need independent reviews.

I might have to as I have to go rescue an elderly family member from a hotspot in South America.

If I go I will definitely get the jab. Most likely the J&J.

But thats the only reason I would get an early jab. For family

As Variants Have Spread, Progress Against the Virus in U.S. Has Stalled

United States coronavirus cases have increased again after hitting a low point late last month, and

some of the states driving the upward trend have also been hit hardest by variants

states also rolled back virus control measures, and now mobility data shows a rise in people socializing and traveling.

Amid all this, more-contagious variants have been gaining a foothold, and

new cases are almost 20 percent higher than they were at the lowest point in March.

Vaccine is piling up in red states, as Republican anti-science threatens national health

As of Thursday, Civiqs showed 41% of Republicans saying that they would definitely not accept a COVID-19 vaccine, while another 10% remain unsure. With the remaining Republicans saying they will accept the vaccine down to just 18%, red states are starting

Mississippi alone is now sitting on tens of thousands of doses that they’re having a hard time giving out.

Mississippi may be ahead of the pack when it comes to opening vaccines to everyone and still having trouble giving away shots, but it’s not alone.

    Other states across the south—particularly
Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, and Tennessee—are also showing low rates of vaccination,

the sheer number of unvaccinated Republicans may mean that the nation cannot reach levels required for herd immunity, no matter how much vaccine is rolled out.

    https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2025136

Confederate and red states are why America is a failed state, a country that can't fix its problems, can't make progress towards a better civilization for all.

J&J's efficacy rate was always lower than the other 2. it still was highly effective in preventing hospitalizations and deaths, though. if i was scrambling to get a vaccine, i'd just take the first one that was available.

but if you had the ability to shop around, only reason i'd take J&J is if i was scared of needles and really didnt want the second shot

2nd dose Moderna wussed me out for a day and a half, mild fever, aches and pains and a few chills, easy peasy.

    link to J&J being suspended?

i saw that regulators were reviewing it after something like 4 cases of blood clots to determine if there is a connection, but i havent seen that they've suspended use. i did see that some places had suspended AstraZeneca use, not J&J

Yep, going to shoot to get it on a Thursday and then take off Friday. Doctor buddy of mine says that if the first round hits you hard there's a really good chance you've already had covid, but we've been pretty militant in the CG household with the distancing & such, so I don't see how.

    Why are you delaying?

FTR my first Moderna shot had barely noticeable side effects.
