Did the bill specify hotels, cruise ships, and casinos?

    As I understand it, no.

It specified a dollar amount and gave the US Treasury the ability to allocate as necessary. You are just spewing talking points.
The President has been talking about targeted relief to the aforementioned. Today.

Mnuchin won't be around long if he doesn't please the boss.

And senators would be any better?
I don’t think any bailout for large industry is urgent right now. They could have removed that part and focused on a bill just for consumers and small businesses but the Republicans seem unwilling to do that without including bailouts for their corporate buddies too.

The airlines for example don’t deserve a bailout imo and the only way I’d give them one is with drastic covenants attached (breaking the big ones up to improve compe ion, mandatory median pay requirements, etc.).. The last time they got one without any strings attached they used it to buy stock back.

The real question is why did this go to a vote when Mitch, out of all people, already knew he didn't have the votes to pass.
It was a PR stunt. So cynical.

Like Wino said, split the bills, vote the aid package for hospitals and workers, there seems to be relative unanimity there. They can negotiate the rest later on.
Seems to be unanimous support for the 350 billion small business "forgivable" loans to keep their workers on, too.

Exactly. Why is McConnell so bent on marrying his desired corporate bailouts with the consumer/worker relief that everyone unanimously agrees we need?

Boeing and suppliers are the biggest employer in the US. They are most certainly dead meat with the airlines going down too. The double hit of the 737max fiasco with their airline customers going s up will be catastrophic to the economy.

I don’t think the airlines would go under. They’d declare chapter 11 to stave off creditor lawsuits and by the time it made its way through the courts we’d be back to normal.

If you’re right though then there needs to be stringent restrictions that go along with the bailouts, which I have no confidence Mnuchin would impose. We can’t simply keep giving the same ily run airlines bailouts every time they recklessly buy stock back and don’t plan for a rainy day.

I dislike airlines a lot, and they provide absolutely terrible service. They deserve everything that's happening to them.

However, they're a big part of our infrastructure and can play a big role in this crisis. Like you said, maybe we need some strings attached, but they have to be bailed out, IMO.

If they need a bailout then we should nationalize them and make them a public service.

Before anyone shouts SOCIALISM, propping an industry up with bailouts that has proven incapable of maintaining long term profitability without government intervention is just as socialist as what I’m suggesting.

Lupus Patients Can’t Get Crucial Medication After President Trump Pushes Unproven Coronavirus Treatment

Trump’s unproven claim that hydroxychloroquine could be used to treat COVID-19 h

    as led to hoarding,

putting Lupus patients and others at even greater risk.

As of Saturday afternoon, Anna Valdez had 27 pills left. That number is now down to 25.

Valdez called her local pharmacy and ordered a refill to treat her autoimmune disorder,

thinking a 90-day supply would help her ride out the coronavirus outbreak.

But the pharmacy told her it had only 10 pills left. Valdez called other pharmacies. They, too, had run out.

I'm not sure you are out of the woods, man. From what I've seen smokers/vapers/e-cigs are all lumped together as being at a higher risk.

It does seem logical that it'd be a bit worse for tobacco smokers though, tbf.

I posted an article by an virus expert who said, his words, China ED everybody by how it mishandled the outbreak.

Which is totally different issue from Xi helping Italy.

Xi and Pootin gaining influence and good will by helping Italy, while Trash executes Pootin's goals of degradation, isolation, ing up of America

I'm probably ed then. I'm a pretty heavy smoker, but have never had a respiratory infection in my life. I've only had the flu twice. I better be careful about this one.

I'm 50, don't have hypertension, and I weigh less than I did in high school. Just north of 150 lbs right now.

The GM model (as designed by the US Treasury last time) would seem appropriate. Bail them out, take stock, and sell it later after they recover.

Not that the socialism part bothers me, but nationalizing airlines might be the only way to make air travel an even worse experience than it already is.

McConnell will never do that because he of all people knows how the minority party can the majority by forcing concessions, he did it for the early obama years. Dems should absolutely do to him what he did to them over the years.

Id be ok with that as long as it’s pref stock with an 8% dividend that accrues.

You know what? They can play that game over non-essential . Right now, both of them need to sit down, check what they agree on, put it in paper, and pass it in the middle of night.
