Is this real? The "unpublished data" they based their decision on was a preprint from India
Not quite. The "unpublished data" was just consistent with the preprint/rejected/revised from India

Studies from India with vaccines not authorized for use in the United States have noted relatively high viral loads and larger cluster sizes associated with infections with Delta, regardless of vaccination status.(96) These early data suggest that breakthrough Delta infections are transmissible. Unpublished data are consistent with this, and additional data collection and studies are underway to understand the level and duration of transmissibility from Delta vaccine breakthrough infections in the United States and other settings.

What's the problem with this? They don't even make a claim that the data is final or conclusive? And, taking the conservative approach and recommending masks again in case it does turn out to be true is problematic because?

The original flu pandemic was in 1918, the original vaccine was developed in 1940, and only used in civilians by 1945. By 1947 it became obvious the virus has been mutating and the vaccine wasn't as effective.

In 1957 the first mutation showed up, which triggered another pandemic that killed 1.1 million people globally. Took almost 3 years to develop new effective vaccines, based on the first ones.

Then in 1968, a new mutation showed up and triggered yet another pandemic with another 1 million people dead globally.

Since then, there has been relatively minor flare ups like H1N1 or avian flu.

    So:
    - We're in a much, much better place to handle this than in the past.
    - We need to learn from the past. If we can avoid it, don't let the virus fester and mutate.
    - Getting this under control doesn't happen overnight.
    1. We have 8 billion humans now
    2. Most of those humans still live in similar.conditions to 1957
    3. You are now going from erradication to getting this under control. Thats a big change. And it.shows that you are finally realizing this virus will live with us probably forever

The Polio virus is still "with us" but you don't seem worried about that.

I never made the claim we were going to eradicate the virus. Quote me where I did?

This started with me responding to a tweet you posted from "Potato of Reason" claiming that there's some non-obvious endgame other than combating the virus and that getting everyone vaccinated is an unachievable goal.

Exactly. Like I said, how do you even prove complete eradication? It's not possible. However, there's a level between that and what we have now we're all comfortable living with, which is what under control means.

Nobody said complete eradication in a matter of weeks/months, but driving R < 1.0 is all you need, then let time do it's thing. That's how other prior pandemics were dealt with as well.

I mean, I've said a couple times already in this very thread that even claiming you've fully eradicated a given virus is technically impossible, why would I make the claim we can eradicate it?

Now that you acknowledge it's never going away tell how you think we will stop it from mutating

By taking the commies here in the USA, the whole damn sham administration, and sending them over to China to be with their handlers, the CCP, and nuking them out of existence.

    We dont.
What makes you think mutations are bad?
Most cold viruses have mutated so as to give minor symptoms that just help in spreading it.
This is an example of a good mutation or variant.
And it makes much more sense from an evolutionary point of view.

So you are saying all the variations will have increasing detrimental symptoms on the host?
