I would agree. He was immensely popular and served for probably one term too many. Wonder how the war would have turned out under Truman from the start?
Truman was probably one of my favorite if not my favorite Democrat past 1900.

The main streak in all of this is the "strongman" who can solve all problems. That is what society needs.

Trump says maybe U.S. will have a president for life someday

    https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politic...r-life-someday

He comments on this kind of thing constantly. Set aside term limits, etc.

Even before he was elected, his calls of how "rigged" the system was, when he thought he would lose, was the first call to his supporters to cast aside liberal democracy.

Further assaults on "fake news" which he explicitly defined as anything bad said about him, regardless of truth.

The crony capitalism that marks Russia as a kleptocracy is in full swing here. A weak, disinterested chief executive has allowed his cabinet an unprecedented level of corruption.

The steady stream of attacks on anything that might limit executive power, culminating in the impeachment acquittal, seals the deal. What will be said after the election will strip away any pretense that the right-wing cares about "freedom" for anyone but themselves.
If you're gonna do a parody thread at least try not to bore us to death, random cuck.

I have had you on ignore for the better part of a year, so I have no ing clue what you generally say other than what others have bothered responding to, but am making an exception here.

What is your strongest criticism of Trump then?
that he has no filter, uses twitter too much, and is somewhat of a bully. either way, none of those really both me as long as he keeps doing a great job as our president. his personality traits literally mean nothing as long as this country keeps moving forward!

Montana Republican Very Sure The Cons ution Says He Can Murder All The Socialists

If there is anything the Right loves, it is making up weird about the Cons ution. Traditionally, this is confined to thinking that criticizing them or not giving them a platform violates their First Amendment rights or pretending the Second Amendment gives them the right to overthrow the government and definitely has nothing to do with a standing army, but every once in a while, they do get creative.

And Montana State Rep. Rodney Garcia is nothing if not creative.

On Saturday, after listening to a speech by former Secretary of the Interior/former Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke, Rep. Garcia shared his super normal fears that the socialists are everywhere and invading the government and his glove compartment, and hiding under his bed. He explained that the Cons ution says that the punishment for being a socialist is prison or the death penalty.

It does not — but nevertheless, he is sticking to his guns and, when asked to clarify his statement by a reporter, responded:

"So actually in the Cons ution of the United States (if) they are found guilty of being a socialist member you either go to prison or are shot," Garcia said.
Where? Well, if you have to ask, you'll never know.
Asked to clarify if he thought it was fair to shoot or jail a socialist, including those who live in Montana, Garcia said yes.

"They're enemies of the free state," Garcia said. "What do we do with our enemies in war? In Vietnam, (Afghanistan), all those. What did we do?"

Asked if that was an appropriate response to his opponent from the last election cycle, Garcia said "according to the Cons ution, I'm telling you."
It is not, for the record, in the Cons ution. The Cons ution does not even mention socialism, and socialism was not even a thing until well after the Cons ution was written. In fact, it was not even a word (at least as we define it now) until 1822. If this were actually a thing, we probably would have seen more of it during the Cold War.

Dunno. I have seen some rather disturbing signs of outright fascist streaks in the Trump party. They seem primed for it.

All it takes is one fire at the Reichstag.

Trump is already preparing for his own Night of the Long Knives.

    --------------------------------

Bolton tops Trump 'enemies list' as president mulls 'payback' after impeachment acquittal: Report

President Trump wants to get back at those on his enemies list, and former national security adviser John Bolton is reportedly at the top.

"He has an enemies list that is growing by the day," a source told Vanity Fair on Monday. A "prominent Republican" added that "it's payback time" for Trump.

"Trump’s playbook is simple: Go after people who crossed him during impeachment," the person said, adding that additional possible targets could include Rep. Adam Schiff, Rep. Jerry Nadler, and Sen. Mitt Romney.

Several sources added that Bolton was the president's No. 1 target. Trump's plan of attack could include a criminal investigation into his former adviser.

"Trump has been calling people and telling them to go after Bolton," a source close to private conversations said, adding that the president wishes for Bolton to be criminally investigated.

Another source said that Trump believes Bolton improperly handled classified information and that the White House might leak emails from him showing abuse by the former adviser. A former official said the emails could include exchanges "showing [Bolton] was doing pay-to-play." Bolton's camp has dismissed the claims, saying, "John plays things straight."

The fight comes as sections of Bolton's book have been leaked to the press, which undermined Trump's impeachment defense. The White House has claimed Bolton's book contains top-secret information and sent a cease-and-desist letter demanding that it not be published.

Truman was probably one of my favorite if not my favorite Democrat past 1900.
So Trump is looking to start criminal investigations into Bolton, for having the nuts to say, "yeah, he did exactly what he said he didn't do".

Which is exactly what dictators do to enemies.

In all due seriousness, you don't see streaks of fascism in the Trumpist movement?

No small part of my college education was spent in modern German history. The parallels between what Trump is doing and the fascist movements of Europe are there. Be happy to expand on that if you wish.

The GOP has gone to the mat for a corrupt authoritarian; if people want to call them fascisti it fits.

The GOP is basically at war with democracy at this point -- no one works harder to keep people from voting.

Bill Barr Is Even Worse Than You Realize

The attorney general is on a tear, shredding the rule of law, just as he threatened he would.

    https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/bill-barr-authoritarian/

Barr says a President is above the law

Democracy through legislations is The Problem, so the legislative branch, just as FF wanted, which is NO co-equal branches. (aka, Barr rewriting history, like a good Communist party secretary)

Leonard Leo and his anti-American Federalist Society, and ALL Repugs are in agreement.

The oligarchy/Repugs have been strategizing, financing, fighting for a one-party-forever autocracy, which includes working/waiting for decades for a no-squishy-moderate hard-5-majority on SCOTUS which they obtain with Federal-liar Kavanaugh, plus throw in 100s of hard-right political hacks in the Federal judiciary where the huge majority of cases are ruled on.

Oligarchy/Repugs have ed America into un ability.

If Trash wins 2020 and keeps the Senate, the un able edness will be guranteed much worse

There's some of that, but I also think some of it is out of political convenience/expediency vs actual ideology.

Unfortunately, when you're dealing with a fascist POTUS, that demands unfettered loyalty, above and beyond the law (textbook trait of fascism), advancing your own agenda means that you have to keep dear leader happy.

But if you ask me if they all think like that. Even the majority thinks like that, I would say no. Obviously, that will be tested much, much more should he win a re-election.

Former Commanders Fault Trump's Use of Troops Against Protesters

WASHINGTON — Retired senior military leaders condemned their successors in the Trump administration for ordering military units Monday to rout those peacefully protesting police violence near the White House.

As military helicopters flew low over the nation’s capital and National Guard units moved into many cities, Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, publicly aligned themselves behind a president who chose chemical spray and rubber bullets to clear peaceful protesters from a park so that he could stage a photo op at a nearby church.
