"The Nets" didn't fire him. Kyrie fired him.

Kyrie should be thanking LeGOAT every day for carrying him to a ring and making sure casual fans don't see him as the cancerous chucker he is.

That's too bad. Kenny is a good coach who develops players. Their culture was great until Kyrie showed up.

[Charania] Durant and Irving never connected with Atkinson and there was a growing belief that they did not have interest in playing for him when [the Nets were] whole again next season, sources told The Athletic.
Full context from Shams’ latest Athletic piece:

[Durant] and one-time world champion Irving lifted Brooklyn into super-team status last summer by choosing to join forces there, Irving as a free-agent and Durant through a sign-and trade from Golden State, which failed to get him to stay. Jordan was part of the Durant/Irving package deal, with the three agreeing via a FaceTime call around 4 a.m. on the opening day of free agency to take their services to Brooklyn.

Durant and Irving never connected with Atkinson and there was a growing belief that they did not have interest in playing for him when this team is whole again next season, sources told The Athletic.

It was not limited to just Durant and Irving, though. Several other players are also said to have begun disconnecting with Atkinson.

NBA rumors: Kevin Durant soured on Kenny Atkinson, Nets' new culture
Durant, Irving and DeAndre Jordan agreed to join the Nets as a package deal on the opening day of free agency last offseason, and based on Durant's comments at media day, Atkinson's presence was a big reason why he decided to depart the Warriors for Brooklyn."I was doing a lot of YouTube research on Kenny Atkinson and watching interviews to see how he talked after games and stuff," two-time Finals MVP said back on Sept. 27. "I really liked his approach to his craft as a coach and that's what drew me in pretty quickly."
Charania reported Monday, however, citing sources, that Durant and Irving failed to connect with Atkinson over the course of the season, and "there was a growing belief that they did not have interest in playing for him" when they're both healthy again next season.
    So, what went wrong?

Charania made it clear that neither Durant nor Irving ever directly called for Atkinson's job, but a lineup change in Brooklyn's first game following the coaching switch seems to point to a source of division. Jordan reportedly expected to be the Nets' starting center upon signing as a free agent, but had played behind 21-year-old Jarrett Allen for the majority of the season. When the Nets took the court Sunday in Vaughn's first game at the helm, Jordan -- who is one of Durant's closest friends -- was in the starting lineup.
    Coincidence? I think not.

While the Warriors had success with Jackson on the court, there was dissension in the ranks. Jackson failed to find an assistant coach he was on the same page with and reportedly got into a confrontation with Kirk Lacob and asked for consultant Jerry West to be kept away from practices and team activities. Not exactly a happy family.
Kerr entered, instilled a winning culture and helped take the Warriors from a second-round playoff exit waiting to happen to a behemoth that went to five straight NBA Finals.
That culture attracted Durant to Golden State, where he won two les and two Finals MVP awards in three years in the Bay Area.

Durant initially liked the culture the Nets had, but a look under the hood changed his mind. So Atkinson is out.Jackson could be next, but can he build the type of culture Durant craves? Seems unlikely.
Lol Durant doing burner phone thing par usual,
