Louisiana has been hit hard due to Mardi Gras tourism. The timing was bad. Mardi Gras in New Orleans was not cancelled and occurred just before things started going South. Over half of the LA cases are in Orleans parish.
The biggest lesson of this whole crisis will be humility...
Every country, every state in the US, went with the totally irrational "Oh well, we're still not concerned, no way it will hurt us like it did our neighbours, right? We're so much smarter and the virus will definitely stop at the border, no need to take precautionary measures to avoid the exact same think that happened in Italy, then in Spain, then in France, then in New York that were all late to react... It won't happen to US because well... it's US.
The virus was all over NY, with thousands of people dying in overwhelmed Italy, but people were still packing on Cali beaches or for Mardi Gras in louisiana while students were partying for spring break... And oh surprise, California and Louisiana now shut down everything as new clusters of the pandemic. Who could have guessed?
Another irrational decision was to close borders but let YOUR citizens come back home, since the virus as everybody knows is making difference between nationality... When it first hit China, every country sent planes to get their people back and the virus with them, ending up hurting considerably much more people than they took care of... Same with all the americans coming back home from Europe after Trump decided to close borders, then thousands of people packing in US airports...
Lots of lifes could have been saved with a bit more humility and not reasoning in terms of nationality or iden y but globally. Sign of the times, some would way, where people tend to analyze and bring back everything to THEIR iden y and community while earth is more than ever a global village.

Man I feel for Spain and France between the two countries over 13,000 dead from virus and rising fast. I can only imagine how much pain and heart ache people are going through Europe right now. I hope and pray for them and may we quickly find a vaccine to eradicate this plague.

Vaccine is still a year away in the absolute best case because (1) we don't know if any of our candidates actually work and (2) we don't know if they have side effects worse than the virus. So vaccine is a long term worry. For now we just gotta hope a reasonable treatment can be found.
This is a show. Both France and Spain have leaders who reacted too slowly, fortunately they were not stupid enough to say that the problem will go away by itself like others, but still their slowness in reacting has caused and will cause more deaths. Unfortunately prayers have never saved anybody so we have to hope that our medical scientists find a solution quickly. There is a big study in Europe right now over 3200 cases to see if chloroquine could be the cure. Professor Raoult in Marseille, the doctor who found the medicine to be effective, has not conducted his study with comparative groups so it is hard to say if it is working or not. Confinement will flatten the curve for sure but how do we get out of it without causing a second wave?
