failing to provide federal assistance to cons utionally-capped state governments is bad policy in the short term and will be a drag on economic recovery.
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/1...pansion-450421Democratic state officials have big plans for expanding health insurance coverage. The problem is, their states are broke.
The pandemic brought on massive budget gaps that will likely force Democratic state officials to scale back their most ambitious coverage plans when many legislatures convene for new sessions in the coming weeks. Plans to create a state-led public option or join Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion become tougher sells when states are also confronting budget crunches that have their officials contemplating deep cuts to public services.

Thought it was more like $2.3 trillion.
My bad, I was citing the figure by heart, didn't want to overshoot. Published figures seem to vary.
Unsurprising if the size of the cut ended up bigger than initial projections, the prediction the tax cut would pay for itself was based on wonky estimates too:

$2000 should be tied to:
1. Tax returns or unemployment showing a loss of income in 2020
2. COVID vaccinations
But I'm not holding my breath.
I don't think it should be tied to anything, tbh. I also think it should be recurring until the pandemic is over.
and there were $100Bs passed out to BigCorp, the wealthy in CARES, including $78B retroactive tax break to luxury r/e owners/investors, eg, Jared K.
This second stimulus bill is aimed mostly at SMBs and individuals with much less than CARES' $100Bs for the top end, so Repugs say that.

Bill to boost aid to 2000 actually passed the house and moves onto the senate.
I didn’t think enough republicans were going to go for it. Mitch the turtle is going to butt it into oblivion though.
Senate giving cover to House (R)s, but that's a higher number than I expected.
wouldnt 2/3 of the house be 290? not 275
Ed Markey wil object, too.

major Cruz backers, went on a buying spree around the same time that they got a $35 million emergency loan

So not everyone voted.
275 is 67% and change or just over 2/3 of those that voted (409)
Which then I would ask how many total must vote for the 2/3 to count?

What are the chances it passes in the Senate? I’m assuming not a very high chance?
Cocaine Mitch won’t even bring it to the floor for a vote and Schumer is too much of a pussy to go medieval.
ALWAYS the only way anything gets done in Washington is if BigDonor bribes Senators enough.
eg, Repugs, and Dems, are bribed to enrich/protect/enable the BigDonor class, and impoverish/ignore everybody else.
one wonders whether the politics are so bad for (R)s at this point that Mitch will cave rather than repeatedly object to $2000 under the spotlight.
