people putting off medical care figures in too
https://thehill.com/changing-america...rcent-over-pre“Death rates are up 40 percent over what they were pre-pandemic,” said Davison of OneAmerica's group life policy holders.
To illustrate just how severe the current death rate is, Davison said a 1 in 200-year catastrophe would likely only cause a 10 percent increase over pre-pandemic deaths.
Notably, Davison said that even if COVID-19 is not listed on a person’s death certificate, that doesn’t mean the virus didn’t play a role. For example, Davison said a person can contract COVID-19 and recover, but the virus could have triggered a separate illness that eventually leads to death.
“It may not all be Covid on their death certificates, but deaths are up in just huge, huge numbers,” Davidson said.
Micah Pollak, associate professor of economics at Indiana University Northwest, told The Guardian that high rates of mortality with COVID-19 along with disability are likely to continue to go up as more people catch the virus.
“We really don’t know what the tail of this thing looks like. The further you get out [from infection], the longer time you have to potentially develop some kind of complications,” said Pollak.

January 2022 COVID deaths (~60,000) in the US exceeded US deaths in the Vietnam War (~58,000)
You're darn tootin', son. And in the first 8 days of February we've lost 25,818 Americans dead of the COVID for 3,227 per day dead. Multiply that out to 28 days of February and oh, daddy...90,000+ for the month, Winester. Couple that with your find for January and we've got 150k of Americans dead of the COVID for the first 2 months of 2022.
"Who's the wild now!"
Although reported COVID-19 deaths between Jan 1, 2020, and Dec 31, 2021, totalled 5·94 million worldwide, we estimate that 18·2 million (95% uncertainty interval 17·1–19·6) people died worldwide because of the COVID-19 pandemic (as measured by excess mortality) over that period.https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...796-3/fulltextAt the country level, the highest numbers of ulative excess deaths due to COVID-19 were estimated in India (4·07 million [3·71–4·36]), the USA (1·13 million [1·08–1·18]), Russia (1·07 million [1·06–1·08]), Mexico (798 000 [741 000–867 000]), Brazil (792 000 [730 000–847 000]), Indonesia (736 000 [594 000–955 000]), and Pakistan (664 000 [498 000–847 000])
Lost another 2,000 Americans to it yesterday, Thursday, 3.10.22.
Will approach losing another 2,000 Americans to it today, Friday, 3.11.22.
Let us proceed...
I was shocked in the State of the Union address that no one was wearing mask - Since most of them are elderly I would have figured they would be wearing mask I guess it makes me feel better with my parents knowing that if they have the shots they will be OK in public
Putting stock in this gov't for your parents well being is unwise, BH.
Just remember David Gates & his sworn allegiance to his father...
"Everything I Own"
"I would give anything I own
I'd give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
Just to touch you once again"
And the secret he'll take with him when he goes...
"Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that can't let go"
Putting any trust in our "government" is unwise.
Americans dying at the rate of 10,000/week from preventable disease is just background noise at this point.
True, and this is why...
Trump President.
Not Clinton.
Heart disease has been taking about 650K a year, or more than 11K per week for some time. You're selling and serving the that kills them. Chop chop
Omicron BA.2 sub-variant spreading in New York City
BA.2 has been found to have a higher growth rate than BA.1
---------
Coffee break over, NYC. Back on your heads!
Heart disease isn't contagious and there's no vaccine for it. The COVID death toll is a gross failure of public health policy and governance, the same can't be said for mortality from heart disease.
Goalpost move noted.
Not sure what goalpost move you mean, I haven't changed my tune on this and see no reason why I ought to be bound by the narrowness of what others like you emphasize. Seems more like I shot a hole in your reply, tbh.
Harping on death and hospitalization alone is more or less artificial, especially when discussing a disease like COVID. Not that you give a about COVID's chronic dimensions and systemic sequelae. To name just a few, cardiac, immunological, neurological, renal, psychological and vascular problems have been clocked. Long COVID is already a major cause of absenteeism and quitting the work force, over time it's likely to be a drag on economies wherever it has been allowed to spread unchecked.
"I'll shut it down."
No, you won't.
US is an outlier among rich countries -- dying complacently for rich people is deeply ingrained
1,012,151 Americans dead in the ground.
4.11.2022.
Shouldn't our peers be more like Mexico, Russia, and other similar nations with wealth distributions?
How bout distributing this 25lb dumb bell...
LOL not even making the play-in with 4 HOFers
Good point, GDP is an aggregate stat, it doesn't tell us much about quality of life. Our GINI coefficient is right in there with Mexico and Turkey.
