    Hooray capitalism...

ne of the few positive things about the Coronavirus pandemic is that it shows us just how greedy, heartless and merciless some corporations can truly be.

For example, we have learned via the Ogle Mole Network that ImageNet Consulting – an Oklahoma City-based “Information Technology Solutions” firm that sells high-dollar copiers, scanners, and IT services to companies all across the country – wanted their remaining employees to forfeit a portion of their April paycheck that is equal to the amount they will receive from their government-issued Coronavirus stimulus payment.

Basically, ImageNet Consulting came up with a plan to pocket their employees’ stimulus checks!

The move came after the company had already conducted mass layoffs as a result of the pandemic. It was first kind of reported by KXAN out of Austin, which is home to an ImageNet Consulting branch.

For some reason, KXAN didn’t identify the company by name:
While Congress was working out the details on a bill that would provide Americans with stimulus checks, at least one Austin company was looking for ways to save payroll.

“The form says they are preemptively deducting funds from our paychecks. That number is based on what they’re anticipating the government relief fund to be,” a worker for the company told KXAN. The worker asked not to be identified in this investigation so as not to impact his company’s ability to continue doing business…

In all fairness to ImageNet, they could use the extra money. According to this blog post by company CEO Pat Russell, the privately held company – which is worth at least nine-figures – only has annual revenues that exceed $100-million, and margins that run about 40%, so they also obviously need their employees stimulus checks to remain so profitable!

In fact, they need their employees kids stimulus payments, too!

The agreement would put workers under a “temporary compensation reduction that is in line with the assistance that it receives from the federal government related to the COVID-19 pandemic.” By signing the agreement, the company’s employees would have their paychecks between April 6 and April 20 cut by 100% of any money received under the stimulus bill.

The company would also take half of the $500 stipend allotted for dependents under the bill.

I don’t know about you, but that’s pretty badass in a ty, corporate-asshole type of way! I’m sure the people at Hobby Lobby are kicking themselves for not thinking of it first!

You can view the entire agreement that KXAN acquired here. You may notice the company name and all that fun stuff is blacked out. Here’s an unredacted top-half of the letter that one Mole provided us. We had to cut the bullet points at the bottom, as they could identify the whistle-blower who leaked the do ent:

They should change the name from “Employee Emergency Compensation Program” to “This Is How We’re Going to Screw Over Our Employees!” That’s way more accurate.

We’ve also acquired a blurry attachment to an email that ImageNet sent to their employees yesterday. Get out your magnifying glass and read it:

WELCOME TO YOUR NEWFOUND INTERNET FAME, ASSHOLE:

On what basis do you think the employees should actually be paid more than what they were making cos of this 'pandemic'?

Meanwhile, the business is the one taking the hit. For an accountant, you're kind of dumb when it comes to numbers.

Even the other Chumpettes didn't want to piggyback ya on this one.

I don't believe that's legal based on how the stimulus is structured. I guess we'll find out soon enough after the first few class action lawsuits.

My understanding is that the reason the IRS is sending the checks out is because it's structured as a personal income tax return.

I'm not privy to their contract details, but that looks like a breach of contract at first sight.

You're saying a company shouldn't pay their employees their prior agreed upon wages when they work for said wages because they are getting a check from the government like most everyone will.

How is the company taking the hit? If they know what's coming, cut the work force/payroll to accommodate the expected hit.

You know what, it's just easier to say you're an idiot and you don't know what you're talking about.

The agreed upon wages is for agreed upon work. According to the article, they are being released from said work. Welcome to austerity, Crusty.

Class actions? years to organize, then SCOTUS will say, as Scalia did, that the plaintiffs don't have commonality as a class. suit killed

It says people are being laid off, it doesn't say those that are laid off are dealing with this, the whistleblower is still working. Dunno about their contracts, but if you're laid off already, why are they cutting checks a month later? Also, why would they be emailing memos to laid off staff?

LOL, you dip . You're shooting off "commie" and "fascist" at every point, incorrectly per par, and here you are supporting your fellow man being ing robbed by millionaire elitists. The irony doubles when you realize you don't know how to use "austerity".

That would be so much better, right?

They're making the same for less work this way.

It's not about better or worse, it's about the contract you drafted. You can't unilaterally change the terms as you see fit (I'm sure you understand what the problem would be in this case), unless you actually have a provision to do so.

It is, essentially, a theft from the employees to the owner of the company. The economic effect is identical.

Your failure to understand the economics does not make me into an idiot. It just points out your ignorance of economics, Dunning-Kruger boy.

You win the prize. You are right here.

It's like if the company found out that someone was getting a tax refund check from the government and decided to dock pay in the amount of the refund.

Company stealing from its workers ok, as long as it lets them keep their jobs.

"that's a nice job you got there, shame if something were to happen to it".

him and his company. ing toxic place to work.

They quite possibly had good intentions. Again, would you rather they fired people?
