Yep, we're in agreement on this one. Repulsive.

After declaring a state of emergency on March 11, the new law gives Orban the power to indefinitely rule by decree until the government decides the emergency is over.

this will happen in lots of places
elections will be canceled/postponed
I see this happening in Brazil and Turkey too, tbh (although Turkey is a defacto dictatorship as it is)
I think Poland was in the middle of this too..
The same stuff is happening in local governments. You'll see it in time....
I don't think so. But we'll see in time.
Well, odds are you'll remain obstinate either way.
Just said the same on the other thread... how many States we have right now under Martial Law?
History is on my side. We'll see if it sticks.
What history?
Every time there was Martial Law declared on a State in the Union, it was temporary, due to an emergency and eventually lifted.
Every time? Patriot Act has been expanded in the last twenty years.

The Patriot Act is martial law?
A close cousin. Suspended rights in the name of safety.
I've always been a complete hater of the Patriot Act, but why are you equating that with Martial Law again?
Nevermind, saw your post.
The difference is that the Patriot Act can be sunset any time Congress decides to do so. Martial Law would require State and US Cons utional amendments, a much higher bar.
It’s not even close to martial law.
But it's not. Only two decades and counting...
Well, I already answered to this. You convince people to vote the way you do (we do have elections, and freedom of movement to go vote, unlike during Martial Law), and then it'll be sunset.
I've been voicing my displeasure with it plenty too, but apparently haven't changed many people's minds. I'll continue to do so, but c'est la vie.
Government wouldn't trick us!!!

Bad news for Roma, Jews, foreigners and indie journalists.
