turns out the herd immunity strategy was herd death
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41599-022-01097-5Sweden is a prosperous and highly developed country, which has invested strongly in healthcare and research over recent decades. Despite the available competence and infrastructure both in academic and industrial settings, these (human) resources were scarcely used during the COVID-19 pandemic. We argue that there was failure of science advice from the start with “COVID-denial” and disregard of scientific evidence (2021e, Miller, 2020). The Government took a passive, hands-off stand, delegating responsibility to the Public Health Agency. The Public Health Agency did not base its advice on scientific evidence but on pre-conceptions on influenza pandemics and herd-immunity—relying primarily on a small advisory group with a narrow disciplinary focus and too limited expertise. A multi-disciplinary, democratic scientific discussion or debate has not taken place, leading to the rise of “shadow science advisory bodies.” None of the official actors took notion of what could have been done better, and no one took responsibility for the results. This ins utional rigidity is illustrated by the self-protective reaction to external critique.
“Many elderly people were administered morphine instead of oxygen despite available supplies, effectively ending their lives.”
Sweden is getting creamed by RSV one year after a record year. No immunity debt there.
Is Sweden still doing fine?
Wait a few, happy hour is almost over and karrin will weigh in.
Sweden had the right approach.

^ slight stutter from Darrin Death Panel
So long as he's safe from any awareness of ongoing mass sickness, disability and death from preventable disease, it's all good.
No stutter. We ed up.
The chiefest wisdom would have been to do nothing at all, apparently.
Yeah we did when the president laughed at masking and vaccines.
And we fd up in other ways because we did not understand the capabilities of the virus completely.
No one on this board or scientists even knew the major way it was spread to begin with. So schools were forced to make decisions in hindsight which look obvious now. But you will never get a truthful time frame of events from a red team member like Darrin. They will conveniently forget the actual history of what we knew and when we knew it. This method is easy and lazy and basically a lie.
Focus protection on elderly and other vulnerable people. Schools should never have closed.
nonsense, whatever Darrin thinks in retrospect is obviously the thing we should have done. it always is.
It was hard to know that at the time, but that may be correct: masking and filtration probably would have been good enough. COVID spreads to communities from schools, so mitigation still makes sense, if the aim is to focus protection on older people.
A science teacher caught Covid at OConnor, your sons high school.
He left behind a wife undergoing chemotherapy (husband went to work and masked) and a child. This was before the vaccine.
Maybe you can do a solid and help them out.
Another fail by Trump
Darrin was too busy at the time declaring the pandemic over or "mild" to actually insist on protecting the elderly. he just likes that as a talking point, not as an actual position.
