Wisconsin pharmacist who tried to spoil 500 COVID-19 vaccine doses pleads guilty to federal tampering charges

The Wisconsin pharmacist charged with trying to destroy COVID-19 vaccines pleaded guilty on Tuesday to federal tampering charges.

Each of the federal charges carries a possible maximum sentence of 10 years, or 20 years for both counts, one for each time authorities say Steven Brandenburg intentionally left more than 500 doses out of the refrigerator where they were stored at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton.

Federal authorities charged Brandenburg, 46, on Tuesday and filed his plea agreement at the same time. The charges are two counts of attempting to tamper with a consumer product. Brandenburg also faces state charges.

Brandenburg, a licensed pharmacist since 1997, worked the third shift at thehospital. On Dec. 24 and Dec. 25, he left vials of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine out of the refrigerator. A pharmacy technician returned them to refrigeration and informed supervisors.

Brandenburg later told investigators he believed the vaccine was unsafe.

"On the morning of December 26, 2020, 57 individuals at the Grafton Facility received doses of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine that Brandenburg had previously removed from refrigeration. Efforts to determine whether Brandenburg’s misconduct had rendered those doses inert or otherwise harmful are ongoing," the plea agreement reads.

Coworkers told investigators Brandenburg believed in various conspiracy theories. He was also going through a divorce, and his actions with the vaccine led a judge to suspend his custody and visitation with his children.

Oklahoma trying to return its $2m stockpile of hydroxychloroquine: Link

The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office has been tasked with attempting to return a $2 million stockpile of a malaria drug once touted by former President Donald Trump as a way to treat the coronavirus.

In April, Gov. Kevin S t, who ordered the hydroxychloroquine purchase, defended it by saying that while it may not be a useful treatment for the coronavirus, the drug had multiple other uses and “that money will not have gone to waste in any respect.”

But nearly a year later the state is trying to offload the drug back to its original supplier, California-based FFF Enterprises, Inc, a private pharmaceutical wholesaler.

    This is aging well.

Oklahoma is trying to return its $2 million stockpile of hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug once touted by former President Donald Trump — despite limited medical evidence — as a promising treatment for COVID-19.

A spokesman for Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter confirmed to HuffPost on Tuesday that Hunter’s office had been asked by the state’s Department of Health to help them offload the hydroxychloroquine stash. Oklahoma’s The Frontier was the first to report the news.

Lockdowns and indoor dining is not synonymous terms.

No. Californians haven't been dining in this entire time. Except for Newsom is allowed to dine in.

Good thing we'll be recalling that POS, eh?

i agree that he's a POS. he only lifted the dine-in ban because he's saving his own skin out of fear of a recall, instead of doing the right thing for his cons uents

but to ElNono's points, CA had generally been lifting restrictions well before this, including revoking the stay at home orders, etc

Well, he does know nobody is in danger. But I agree that that has nothing to do with it.

Exactly. The lifting of restrictions announced monday are no different than the same last year.

California had to reinstate restrictions back in January, IIRC, which also banned outdoor dinning.
