SAN ANTONIO (WOAI) — During an emotionally jarring coronavirus update, Mayor Ron Nirenberg announced "the biggest single day increase" of new positive cases in Bexar County.
The mayor announced Tuesday 436 new cases of COVID-19 in Bexar County, bringing to a total of 4,873 cases.
"This is the biggest single day increase of reported new cases," Mayor Nirenberg said. "We don't use the state's reopening plan as an excuse to throw out the good habits we've been practiced to contain the spread. The virus is still out there."
Additionally, the mayor said there's an increase of patients being hospitalized with a total of 212 patients in local hospitals and 83 patients in intensive care.
County Judge Nelson Wolff added that it's important more than ever for residents to take safety precautions seriously.
"We are in probably the worst crisis we've had since it started," Judge Wolff said. "We've got to work but we've got to start working more smart."
This is a developing story and will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
