Growing political will to restore manufacturing capacity in the national interest will have a shattering effect on countries that built up their economies through a labour price advantage over the past 40 years. No amount of currency depreciation or product dumping can overcome the reality of a country’s foreign customer base suddenly opting to produce and buy their own goods at compe ive prices.

For Capitalists, their is no such value as "national interest" or allegiance to any country.

They will do business wherever the profits are greatest.

If more profit means doing business locally, OK

If not, then their business will remain, will be done wherever it is most profitable.

No Capitalist is going to reduce profits doing business locally because he loves America.

Eh, capitalism can't make the French favor international products over local ones.

France manufactures very little now. Big box stores complained decades ago that they can't find French products for their stores.

French GROWN products are simply superior and deeply appreciated as fundamental to France's heritage. Fruit, veg, wine, cheese.

In those products, like anywhere, Capitalists know there is almost no profit anyway in fresh food.
