Doubt it's going to make a dent here in LA, but we'll see. I'm keeping an eye on housing prices though. If it really gets bad, might be an opportunity, tbh
I doubt you'll have that opportunity, the rich have so much in liquidity it will be a 2008 buy up all over again.

It doesn't have to be the same to be a state issue
No, it absolutely does. Coronavirus affects interstate commerce. The cons utional analysis is different than a purely local police issue like the burning precinct. So saying it doesn't have to be the same state issue is probably the most ignorant thing someone could say -- the commerce clause is a thing. Congressional delegations of power to the Executive are a thing. But you know nothing about that and you're hiding behind lawyer words but you're really just a stupid ignorant that thinks he knows what he's talking about. But you don't.

Trying to flex your legal e-peen

You said the POTUS was in control of NY. Are you saying the POTUS or congress has power to protect interstate commerce based on the cons ution?

The Supreme Court has explained that
states “retain authority under their general police powers to regulate matters of ‘legitimate local concern,’
even though interstate commerce may be affected.”
And when it comes to public-health measures like
quarantines, the Court has concluded that “[t]he mere power of the Federal Government to regulate interstate commerce does not disable the States from adopting reasonable measures designed to secure the
health and comfort of their people.” Thus,

In the absence of any action taken by Congress on the subject-matter, it is well settled that a state,
in the exercise of its police power, may establish quarantines against human beings, or animals, or
plants, the coming in of which may expose the inhabitants, or the stock, or the trees, plants, or
growing crops, to disease, injury, or destruction thereby, and this in spite of the fact that such
    quarantines necessarily affect interstate commerce
    .

LOL forum libertarians nowhere to be seen when our Dear Leader suspends the fist amendment.
    More than just the first.

Grabbing people off the streets 'cause is not really a charge that sticks in a court.

Dated July 1, the memo is led “Public Affairs Guidance: CBP Support to Protect Federal Facilities and Property” and marked “For Official Use Only.” It describes a special task force created by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in response to President Trump’s Executive Order on Protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues and Combating Recent Criminal Violence. That task force, the Protecting American Communities Task Force (PACT), has been tasked not only to assess civil unrest but also to “surge” resources to protect against it.

The Portland arrest of Mark Pettibone, first reported by Oregon Public Broadcasting, followed several similar arrests involving officers from a Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC)—CBP’s equivalent of a SWAT team—as well as the US Marshals Special Operations Group. A CBP spokesman confirmed to The Nation that CBP agents were responsible for the arrest, pointing to authorities under the Protecting American Communities Task Force.

    Border patrol? In portland? WTF?

and yeah, that memo pretty much is creeping fascism. wits here defending it, will be screaming bloody murder if a Democrat was president. Seems like we have given waaaay too much discretion to the law enforcement.

    Oregon is cool.

But you would not be accepted. Probably better that you stay miserable where you are now.

Absolutely. 20 assholes at the courthouse in a city of 650,000. I'd never see it.

I would. I lived there for a couple of years in the mid 90s, one of the prettiest cities I've lived in.

He should do that, but that also means following the law, which is probably why he's not done it yet.

    lol
I think it's fairly clear they're trying to keep people from coming out of the doors. Why would they pile up stuff in front of the doors if they wanted to break in?

If I had to choose between Portland or some conservative utopia like Rogers Arkansas I would easily prefer Portland.
