I mean the dude just a few years ago was a highly touted minor league prospect, was in the 2004 LLWS (apparently, according to youtube), and seems to ooze Baseball Prodigy. Why are so many team giving up on him so quickly?

He's batting cleanup tonight on the Padres squad.

Profar famously ranked as the No. 1 prospect in baseball in 2013 before injuries derailed his rise and sapped his physical ability. Profar missed the entire 2014 and 2015 seasons with shoulder injuries, then struggled to find consistent playing time in 2016 and 2017. He appeared finally to break out in 2018 with the Rangers, but he fell back to earth in 2019 after a trade to Oakland and was set to be non-tendered by the A’s. The switch-hitting Profar offers power and speed in the middle infield. He is coming off back-to-back 20 home run seasons and is 19-for-20 on stolen bases over the last two years. However, he’s also a career .234/.315/.394 hitter who suffered through a horrendous case of the yips last season and lost the A’s starting second base job. Manager Jayce Tingler was also a member of the Rangers front office when Profar was a top prospect and is very familiar with his strengths and weaknesses. The Padres hope that familiarity will help them get the best from Profar in 2020. He will be a free agent after the season.

Injuries and mental limitations. Hoping he turns it around with the Padres but after watching him away every opportunity with the Rangers I'm not holding my breath.

I can’t imagine there’s a team with a worse track record of prospect development than Texas. Our farm system was so loaded and we have virtually nothing to show for it, aside from a few strikeout machines that sometimes hit empty stat homers.

    This.

I have personal experience with the Rangers screwing over prospects. My boss' (and softball teammate) son Brett was in the Rangers farm system after he was a rising star in winter leagues in 2012-2013. They don't seem to develop players well there.

They also had Neftali Feliz about 10 years ago and he never developed his full potential.

Feliz was a rising beast up until 2011 WS Game 6, then he was never the same player again.

The Rangers' ty situation starts and ends with their god-awful GM. Been saying for years the Rangers were gonna get run into the dirt by Daniels and sure enough here we are.
