Wish I could celebrate that, if it would mean peace on the region... it very likely means the exact opposite.

Saudi Arabia would do the same thing right now if they knew it would not cause internal strife that they would have to put down. Right now this is in the government of UAE interest and they can shut any protesting down.
85% of the citizens are Sunni
80% of the pop are foreign workers
this is probably one of the nicest places for a Sunni Muslim to live as the government gives you everything.
it’s also a very small country who can use powerful allies especially with the larger threat of Shia extremists. So you go with the Chews.
now the peace treaty with Egypt (comparatively huge population) really meant something.
they now have cooperation with an incredibly good intelligence apparatus who can give them very good info on Shia threats
so there you have it. closer inspection and understanding the middle east says it makes sense. Right now....
it seems people in the US really can’t gauge the animosity between Sunni and Shia.

It all sounds good in relative terms... not sure I would call stoning and flogging "nice", nor I don't think women necessarily agree, but can't have it all, I suppose.
