Thanks. I've seen some polling this month that indicates many people who are voting Biden are doing so not because they support him, but because they oppose Trump. That's a similar situation to 2016 of hold nose and cast ballot, just not as extreme as 2016.

So yeah, a lot can happen in 70 days. Personally, I think Trump will carry Florida and may narrowly lose Wisconsin. Biden's campaign, I'm sure, won't completely neglect it like Hillary did.

Well yeah Biden's approval is roughly even, Hillary's likability rating was -20%. It's a lot easier to get a "hold nose and cast ballot" vote from someone who has a neutral opinion of you than from someone who hates you . It's also easier to ran an "I might suck but at least I'm not him!" campaign against an in bent with low approval ratings as oppose to an outsider with no political track record.

IMO Florida comes down to 1-2% like it always does. There are so many externalities that affect its results (i.e., how many ex-felons are now voting after their ballot initiative, how much are Broward County election officials going to stuff up, etc.) some will inevitably break for each side.

The answer is that prior to Trump, it's been blue since the Gipper in 1984.

That's not really true. In 2004 and 2000 it was decided by 10k votes or less. Could have easily gone to Bush both times - it was a closer race in those elections than it was in 2016. Kerry won it by 0.38%, and Gore won it by 0.22%. I'd call it a slightly left leaning purple state. The Cook Partisan Index ranks it as EVEN.

A lot of people don't remember that Obama, while a great campaigner in general, was an especially great campaigner in the midwest. He won Iowa by 5+% each time despite it being a state Bush barely win in 2004 and Gore barely won in 2000, each by less than 1%. He won over 50% of the vote in Ohio both times - the last Democrat to do that before him was LBJ (Clinton won by plurality each time). Even won Indiana in 2008.

Obama made a lot of people (some of which clearly part of Clinton's campaign) forget what the political climate in Wisconsin is when it's not an extremely talented candidate on the ticket and how difficult it is to campaign in those states. Obama visited every county in Iowa in both elections; they're places where you need literal boots on the ground talking to voters.

Did anyone have Trump carrying Wisconsin prior to election day, though? I don't even think Karl Rove's wet dream included that state .

Personally, i placed that state next to Minnesota in the pipe dream category since it only sometimes teased but never actually went red.
