Pop has always strived to have people move up, and eventually move out.
Congratulations to him and coach (I know I'm super late) Ahern.
The Austin Spurs have a lot of retooling to do in the front office, sideline, and the court this upcoming season
This franchise is going to so fast
Yeah, because he wants a bunch of nobodies around him so no one challenges his authority tbh.
I get the sentiment but our G league teams GM being hired to manage another NBA team is not a good example of that tbh
Yes, that's why he's developing leaders for the rest of the league, because he's surrounded himself with a bunch of Yes men (and women) that are incapable of functioning successfully outside of his authority. Makes sense.
I kind of liked your other screen name...the one to play that short, fat guy with no knees.
Bc we lost the GM of our minor league team lolz
We just lost our future.
It’s also no one wants to stay and advance in the organization. We got first year assistants interviewing for HC jobs.
This is the same mindset that led Pop to push Boban to take the contract Detroit offered him. It was along the lines of "you will get more money and minutes there so go take advantage".
It's the same with the coaching staff and front office. If Pop knows that the Spurs can't or won't offer a similar position to someone who is leaving, he tells them to leave with his blessing. I find it admirable.
Damn, I feel old... I still remember watching Fields as a rookie with the Knicks, and thinking of him as a good target for a future Spur.

The question really should be why didn’t the Spurs offer that job to him? Maybe he wanted to leave and didn’t even ask. I remember hearing Fields being pivotal for scouting these recent draft picks. Now he is gone and we trying to find someone to replace him for the upcoming draft. Plus the Hawks pick before us in the draft. Who knows what intel he is sharing.
The brain (and talent) drain has become obvious lately. I guess Pop's true genius was creating a system and bringing in the right people (also Tim Duncan) to make it all look good.
Spur is a white supremacist racist organization tbh, that is why imho
me too and i was surprised to see he was with the spurs as a g-league assist. i was like "damn landry fields? i remember that dude..." when i saw the realgm.com article about all this the other day.
If memory serves, Atlanta was without an assistant GM for over a year, so they were looking to fill the position.
Also, unless I'm remembering wrong, Fields was the scout who 'found' Chimezie Metu and reportedly spent a whole lot of time on the USC campus scouting him (and possibly just enjoying hanging out at USC as a young rich guy).
So with Fields gone, bye bye Metu (as if there was a doubt anyway).
